Show me your potted hostas!
Comments (15)Annette, All of my hostas except for a few pieces of some of the more common ones are in pots. Including the seedlings, daylillies, maples and roses there are probably 600 potted plants in the yard. Some will be split and part put in the ground soon hopefully. Others I will get some more decorative pots for. That way, even if the voles or some weird weather get them I should have backups. Interestingly the voles have figured out how to get into the pots so they have a plentiful supply of food. This year my project is to put wire into the bottom of all the hosta pots to keep them out. They will do well in our area as long as the mix is moisture retentive yet well drained with lots of air pockets for root growth. That said there are even some that seem to enjoy being pot bound to a point. I think that is the reason GE has done so well for me. Other than the vole damage I have had very few over wintering problems. Lost a few to rot before I figured out that potting soil straight from the bag is not the way to go. Good luck and hope you enjoy the pics. Art...See Moreshow me your favorite pie crust edge hosta
Comments (12)I love pie-crusted hostas, so I have several :) These are all recent purchases, within the last 3 years. Niagara Falls: Marilyn Monroe (not actually shiny, it was raining): Emerald Ruff Cut: Queen of the Seas: Choo Choo Train: Lakeside Paisley Print: Sea Gulf Stream: Sky Dancer: Neptune: I also just bought 8 new piecrusted ones: Spartacus, Cold Heart, Childhood Fantasy, Shimmy Shake, Cranberry Wine, Invincible, Lakeside Hoola Hoop, & Lakeside Cindy Cee (had to get one after seeing UK-Hostaman's. His is spectacular). But I don't have photos of those yet. Wendy...See Moreshow me yours, so i can build mine - raised hosta beds
Comments (19)Yes, you certainly are right... the rush is on! This is my first experience with hosta and I hope I am not planting too late. It is still pretty warm here - starts out in the 50's in the morning and warms up to the 80's by mid day. I am officialy zone 6 but we are usually more like zone 7. Occasionally we get socked with a zone 6 winter (like last year). We don't start getting cold weather usually until Nov. Now that I've said that we will get zapped ha ha. Your cats sound adorable Betty, especially the "crier" lol. My helper is an indoor cat but loves to spend a little time with me outside. (my other cat is afraid of being outside believe it or not) And speaking of holes... here she is a few mintues after I took the picture of her inspecting the soil - that excavated 4 x 4 hole definitely needed some rolling to get the dimensions right! Comments (33)Woven wooden shades would add a really nice texture to your room. You're right, I have a pair of double hung windows behind my tub. I've just ordered cordless cellular shades that will be 2 on 1 headrail and have the top down/bottom up feature for privacy and a view of the trees outside. I literally have to climb in my tub to adjust the windows or shades so they probably won't be moved very often. I'm planning to accent with purple so I'm hoping to find fabric for a valance to tie it all together and bring a softer texture into the room. You must be so anxious to be in your new home. I've never built a house before but I'm sure it would be both exciting and overwhelming....See MoreRoxana *** ZN 5 Indianapolis IN ***
