Paint or stain??? Help

We recently remodeled our kitchen in a Tudor home. Should we stain or paint the windows? If we stain what color? If we paint do we match the cabinets? Help!! Color on fireplace is original we haven't touched it yet.. The cabinets are much creamier than I wanted :( causing design dilemmas

Match the rest of the trim in the house.

This is truly a matter of "look." Either painted or stained would be appropriate, functional, and attractive. Here is what we did with our kitchen which is similar in size and exposure to yours: It could have been white/off-white or stained a much lighter color. I don't think darker would have been a good choice though. We could even have done painted in a color like sage green or butter yellow, and done something entirely different with the wall color. This is a smallish space, but with an island (vs. a peninsula), you can consider doing the perimeters white with dark counters and the island dark with light counters. We've seen several of those here which turn out very well. When you are starting over and replacing all the cabs and counters, the possibilities are wide open. Choose what appeals to you. Of course, if your SO has an opinion, that will influence the choice too.

The old coat of solid stain that has weathered makes a good prime coat if it's clean, dull & dry and is a sound coat, meaning not peeling or compromised in some other way. Duration is a house paint, whereas the other is a stain. The chief difference is the dry film thickness and sheen. the thin dry film makes the stain follow the contours of the wood and can give you a more authentic or maybe even rustic look, depending on the wood. It will almost always be flat, with no shine at all. The thicker coat will more fill in the grain of the wood and probably have an eggshell or higher shine, maybe even to a satin or semi-gloss. It most likely will not be available flat. A thinner coat means shorter life, the trade-off reflected in the price. A properly applied thicker coat of duration can be expected to last a good long while, but I wouldn't use anyone's "lifetime". If the wood has roughness or character to it, that you want to exploit for a certain look, I'd put stain on it. If the wood is smooth, almost shiny the way it is, I'd use house paint.

I will upload one. Thank you for your reply. Paint brand is Pittsburgh Paint. Not sure about the primer. Painter is supposed to be coming by to see it. I'm guessing the correct primer would be oil-based?

either way-you can go dark as ur counter is light n have a big room. exhaust fan is modern....is you want to stick w an era paint. BUT ITS WHAT YOU WANT.

Thank you! The living room attached is all wood stain with leaded glass windows. Just trying to figure out if we will not be tying the kitchen with the rest of the house by painting the windows but struggling with staining

I would stain since it’s a Tudor, somehow that seems more appropriate to me, but I’m no expert. Very nice!

If the rest of the window and door frames/trim are stained, stain those in this room as well.

You might consider painting the inside of the cabinets with glass doors the same color as your kitchen bar seating. You could paint the wall around the patio doors the same color as an accent wall.

Agree with staining...if you don’t end up liking it you can always paint later, but I think it will look beautiful.

I would probably paint the window trim white and stain darkly or at least medium the slider. The kitchen seems to be set apart from any other window areas....the flow with the cabinets and keeping the one kitchen window white seems an approach.......and go dark /more intense stain on that door.

Since the trim in the rest of the house is stained, I'd stain it to match.

staining the trim will really bring it out, i'm not sure that's a good thing though. i'd paint it myself. i think the option of painting the window and staining the door is also good. my tudor has a mix of stained and painted trim.
