Comments (18)Beautiful photos, Strawberryhill! I LOVE that rose! I knew she was special as soon as I saw the seedling developing. Better health, better foliage, more beautiful wood than any of her siblings. I love those fuzzy buds and growth tips! Diane, Joyberry isn't available anywhere...yet. I finally have the plant in the ground and am pushing it to collect pollen. Removing the flowers for whatever reason, does the same to push the plant to grow. This one I'm collecting pollen from for breeding. I'm also keeping it well overwatered because of the soil type it's in and the all day southern sun exposure it endures. This blamed thing is actually suckering like a Gallica or something! Not invasively like bamboo, but out a few inches to make a thicket type plant. That will make it MUCH easier to propagate! I will do my best to get it out there and be sure to let you know where to find it. I had originally not been that attracted to Joyberry as I had hoped for it to be thornless. It is not. But, it flowers so easily, grows so nicely and that fragrance! Wonderful! Thanks! Kim...See MoreOrange trees that i grew from seeds from store bought fruit.
Comments (47)Which varieties of citrus do best for own-root, grown from seed? I think there's something to be said for being natural. And I refuse to believe it is absolutely impossible to grow any type of decent citrus fruit without having to use grafting. Edit: Another discussion in this forum says that many citrus varieties can be grown own-root, but some maybe less sweet, and the roots require more frequent irrigation and are more vulnerable to disease. http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/citrus/msg012036217931.html And for some citrus varieties, the fruit resulting from the seedlings may be significantly different from the parent. It's all luck of the draw with the genes, and once the breeders found a winner they simply resorted to clonal propagation. For planting citrus seeds, one of the really helpful things is to carefully peel off the slimy covering over the seed, it helps the seed begin to grow much sooner, otherwise it takes time for this protective layer to rot away in the soil. Comments (150)I got the BINGO words too but I am little late. Doesn't matter. Velvet, I am glad that your sister is doing good. I know prayer works. On 2005 my dad went through the similar situation where he was on ventilator and 4 doctors had said, "it's too late, nothing could be done." They even advised us not to put him on ventilator, but we knew Jesus can do miracles today also so we insisted to put him on the ventilator and prayed and never gave up our hopes. Finally we got our miracle when my dad got out of the hospital after two long months. We have published a book "Through the valley of death" which describes the horrible and unforgetable ordeal we went through. Yes prayer does work. My dad is still alive and doing good....See Moreseed grown in ground Fukushu kumquat trees.
Comments (21)If you opened this thread, I will add the evolution of my fukushu kumquat grafted on rio red grefruit seedling in 2014. It is now in 15-20L airpot, with generic potting soil amended with perlite, keramzit and bark. It is in the new location for 2 months, and this week flowered nicely. New little branches grew from the vertical stem (the last watersprout), growth that stopped now (right after full moon)....See Moreponcirusguy6b452xx
