Having trouble finding nice brands locally
Comments (2)I too found nothing locally - so I narrowed in on a couple upper mid grade brands, Huntington House, Sherrill and Clayton Marcus. I locally shopped for fabrics, and then ordered (through a discount store - since local stores weren't willing to match). I found a neat site that you can use to view the frame selection(s). I felt comfortable ordering like this, as I have done it before with great success and no regrets! Comments (4)I'm painting my home also, however, I'm looking for grays with a green undertone. I found that against the greens in the grass and trees, the blue undertone grays start looking too blue for me. My suggestion is to look at grays that initially you didn't consider because the color may look more blue outside. Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray is a med gray with slight blue undertones that looks more blue outside. I also started to ask what the LVR of the paint color is. This is how light or dark the color is. Sherwin Williams lists this number on the back of the paint strips, Ben Moore does not, you have to ask. This also helps limit your color choices. I decided I liked a color that has an LVR of about 38-40. I understand what a hard decision this is. I have purchased about 12 sample colors and painted large areas on my new house last fall and stared at them all winter. I settled on S.W. Rare Gray which looked so green in the store I initially passed on it. The painters will start in a couple weeks. Hope I made the correct choice. Comments (4)It looks like there is a hint of gold or khaki in your chairs. I would lean toward a rug predominately in those colors with color texture versus a dominant print. Beautiful room....See MoreHaving trouble finding a perfect exterior color for my farm house.
Comments (57)Such a beautiful ranch! That brown stain on the current porch overhang would look gorgeous on the rest of the house, including the foundation. I love the idea of dark flat forest green trim on windows and doors. Also agree that fewer but bigger rustic posts, with those diagonal y pieces at the top, would balance the roof and give the porch a solid, welcoming feel. If there are some big conical evergreens native to your area, consider planting a couple in the yard. Their lines would echo the roofline, and reach for the sky, further connecting the house to the land. And that would also work well with the green trim. Reuse that pile of boulders strategically, integrating them with some plantings in front of the porch and a pathway from the parking area to the porch. Over the years, you could change up the front door color with a lighter green in the same family, or a lighter brown, a sage green, or even a mustard color if you are feeling bold. Here's my very rough scribbles to show what I mean. Also put a bigger stoop on that side door if you plan to use it, and a bit of gravel or stepping stones to unobtrusively connect it to the front porch as well....See MoreCaleb Elliott
