Comments (18)lgmd-gaz, I would distinguish between works of art that have a spot in an art museum vs something like a confederate monument in a public place. I think the expectations around the depictions of various scenes in a museum is different from those in a public spaces where memorials are literally put on pedestals in a position of honor. I don't think there's an issue with memorials in places like cemeteries or historic sites like Gettysburg or that the intent is to erase history, but to be sensitive to the symbolism and compassionate toward those who find it distressing. An example in our area, a local office building had a replica of the Statue of David outside where it could be seen from the street. Parents were unhappy with it's location given its anatomical correctness, so after some ado, it was moved to inside an office building and the controversy ended. The Nat'l Trust for Historic Preservation put out a thoughtful piece on the issue you might find of interest....See Morelgmd_gaz
