Know of supplies/installers of stainless backsplash sheets in NYC
Comments (2)If I were you, I'd give up the idea of using magnetic stainless as a backsplash. It will corrode much more readily than non-magnetic stainless, which sort of defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it? Besides, spices should be stored in a cooler place than a range backsplash. I suggest you look for a 300 series "austenitic" type of stainless steel sheet. 304 is a standard, out of which most flatware is made (it's 18-8 stainless). An even higher grade is 316, or 317. Any competent sheet metal shop/fabricator should be able to procure and cut to shape a stainless steel panel for your purposes. You could ask them to give one side a high polish or other desirable finish like brushing, as well, if that's important to you. It will be less expensive if the shape you request has all straight sides - that way a mechanical shear can be used to cut the work. Right angles, even better. If you really want spices stored on the backsplace, specify a stainless shelf to be installed at a convenient height. It needn't be that deep, as most spice bottles take up only an inch or two of space....See MoreSlide in range with backsplash just behind?
Comments (10)I don't have the range yet. I was looking at the GE Profile. The new laminate is in. The problem is that the laminate backsplash is about 1 or 1-1/2" thick and seems that it would look odd with a thin backsplash between the laminate behind the stove. I'm wondering if I should build up something to match thickness. I do really want a backsplash there, not just paint because I do splatter behind the stove. It's the one place that I want a full backsplash. The wavy glass isn't hard to clean, it's big waves and would wipe easily, which is the selling feature for me, besides looking clean and streamlined. I was also considering a sheet metal backsplash, either bronze or stainless. Maybe that would be easier to work around. The alternative to the slide in would be a free standing range with control riser in the back. That's what's currently there, and so there's no issue with the laminate splash on either side. I really don't like that ALL the new ranges have the large burners in the front. I cook lots of big pots of stews and sauces. At least the slide in range with controls in the back would give me a little buffer in keeping the hot stuff away from the children. At least I've realized this before purchasing so I have time to figure things out....See MoreUsing sheets of glass as a backsplash: experiences?
Comments (2)Mine was set in place and held pretty much by gravity and some caulk along the top. Also mechanically held in by the switchplate, which is screwed to the wall via the junction box. I've seen it done the way they used to do mirrors too with a screw hole toward the top of each corner. You will have several issues with just an acid etch. Along with seeing irregularity around the junction box, the undercounter lighting will also refract and cast shadows through the glass, and the glass won't look very monolithic Most glass backsplashes are painted on the back, in my experience....See Morecan you get marble with veins in sheets for backsplash?
