Is it worth keeping a small amount of brick on one exterior wall?
Comments (18)I went ahead and removed the brick from the corner (left side of first picture) so I could go ahead and attach the vinyl siding corner. The bricks came loose pretty easily although it was a little bit of a pain to get every other one out since they are interlocked. I think they will come off quite easily once I start stripping them off a whole row at a time. I'm using a small air chisel which works really well and I've found that I can even use it to quickly pop all the mortar off the bricks. That way I will be able to reuse most of them for another project rather than just trashing them. :)...See MoreBrick Wall Weep Holes - how to add to existing brick walls
Comments (10)Weep holes are seldom done in residential construction in my experience. I have never seen a code requiring them(could be though). While they are recommended in commercial construction, they are part of a drainage system of through wall flashing & often a mortar baffle that helps keep the weep holes clear of mortar. The flashing intercepts any water & directs it to the weeps. I would not add weep holes to a wall not designed for them. I doubt if they would work & would more likely cause trouble or damage. If their are no water issues at this point their most likely won't be....See MoreWhat can we do to make brick retaining walls and columns match facade?
Comments (7)We took a walk through the neighborhood this past weekend , and I finally figured out why the rock wall is there (sort of). Almost all the homes have some sort of rock wall formation on their property, and I believe it’s because the neighborhood is built on a mountain top, so the various builders all seemed to have utilized in some form or fashion all the rock that was excavated during the building process. I think once we find a solution for the red brick, the wall won’t be as big of an eyesore and flow a little better with the lot and the neighborhood. And agree absolutely about the landscaping! We’re working on it now!...See MoreVinyl siding, do we add brick or stone or stucco.
Comments (18)Taking the siding to the ground might not be the best idea, My husband put a coating on ours (think it was called Fibercrete) that made it look more like poured concrete that block. Then we just left it the concrete color. If your ambitious and in a cold climate, it is possible to add rigid foam insulation the the exterior of the block... https://www.familyhandyman.com/walls/foundation-insulation-panels/view-all/...See Morebeesneeds
