I would not have recommended acrylic. We had an acrylic tub and surround that did not last. Acrylic has some disadvantages: - It is very brittle and will require support underneath to remove any possibility of flexing, which would make it crack over time. Our surround cracked within five years under very minimal use in an unsupported spot. - Be very careful to use ONLY recommended cleaners. I damaged the acrylic with a brand-name cleaner and ever afterwards, could not keep it looking good. It would look dirty within a week again. - Your salesperson is talking out of his hat. Acrylic is not quite as slippery as cast iron, but it is still slippery enough to be dangerous with water and soap. I'm actually very surprised the surface of your showerpan is not nubby-feeling. I thought all horizontal surfaces in mfg'ed tubs and showerpans were federally mandated to have a non-slip coating. It's usually a plastic overcoating with a "pebbled" feel underfoot that works very well against slippage.

Keep in mind that aging in place is one of my goals: Oversized shower large enough for help getting in/out, if necessary. One hand held shower mounted high enough to act as primary shower/ on a slide bar so it can be used from the stool. Double showers? Why? If two of you are in the shower, the goal usually isn't washing your hair! Moveable teak stool that can be placed where we please -- or replaced with a more study handicapped shower chair someday in the future, if necessary. No barrier or step-over of any type, but a door to hold in warmth. Pony walls rather than glass all the way up (because glass can't support a grab bar). No wider than 3 1/2' because wider than that, I couldn't effectively reach grab bars on both sides at once. Yes, the Goldilocks analogy works -- not too big, not too small. Large niche for storage hidden in pony wall (so not visible to the whole room). Small, "grippy" tile on the floor -- absolutely not a slippery shower pan. Good light and ventilation in the shower. Convenient place to hang towel -- don't say, "Big deal" -- I'm in a hotel right now with a fabulous bath ... And no place to hang a shower towel in reach of the shower door. Turbo body dryer -- like a giant hair dryer, but it's for the body. It's designed for handicapped people, but I think it'd be a nice luxury. Nice tile over everything.

We've seen lots of issues with drains near the door,, just seems like a bad idea. Does your door swing in and out? If so I'd try swinging it in as often as you can instead of our, that way the sweep on the bottom of the door won't push water out.

Also an issue of cost. When you get into larger or unusual sizes, cast iron is either not available or much more expensive than solid surface. We went with a cultured granite 38" neo-angle showerbase & 2 surround walls, from a cultured marble company (they're basically the same thing, but the CG is a very good ringer for Swanstone & Corian - three different contractors couldn't tell the difference.). Love it - my DH still calls it the best thing we did from a 2003 remodel of kitchen and 2 bathrms! Sooo easy to clean.
