chandelier size for a 2 story foyer
Comments (3)Rule of thumb that I often see is: width of chandelier should be equal in inches to the length plus width of room (in feet). Height of chandelier should be 3 inches for every foot of room's height. In your case that would give you a 14 inch wide and 57 inches tall. I doubt you'll find much with dimensions close to that. LOL! I'd probably go quite a bit wider than 14 inches especially since the foyer is open to the great room. Maybe up to 22 inches wide. But you need something to fill up some of that well-like space and give it some definition so definitely look for something that is taller than it is wide. I'd want at least 42 to 44 inches tall and I'd want to be able to hang it so that it is either centered in the foyer window or so that the bottom edge of the chandy is at the same level as the bottom edge of the foyer window. LightingUniverse.com lets you search on both width and height at the same time. It isn't a perfect search because height is sometimes measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture and therefore includes the length of any fixed rod - or even sometimes the length of the chain! - rather than just giving you the dimensions of the "decorative part" of the fixture which is really what you want to focus on. But at least you can eliminate fixtures that are much too wide for your space and narrow down the search for some with a body height which is great enough for your space....See More2 story cathedral ceilings and chandeliers, how to hang them?
Comments (1)Do you have a window in the upper portion of your foyer? I have a two storey foyer and we simply centered the chandelier on the window. As far as height over a dining table, I'd think that regardless of the height of the ceiling, the regular "rules" would apply. I've seen a bunch of different sources for chandelier size and height. I've put a link to one below Here is a link that might be useful: Chandelier size, height, etc...See Morehow long does a chain need to be on a 30 inch light in a 2 story foyer
Comments (5)You have a 228 inches ( 19' ) entry floor to second floor ceiling. You have a fixture totaling 107 inches with the mount and chain with 5" in that number for the mounting attachment, . You'd never want it less than eight feet off the floor to fixture bottom. Right ? So 11 inches is the ABSOLUTE MOST extra chain you could need or use.. My bet is you WON'T need another darn inch of chain !! The fixture bottom will simply hang with 108 inches "open" beneath it at entry foyer. And possibly more than that when it is held up for a visual using the whole six feet of chain : ) and the electrician actually REMOVES a few links....See MoreHow to manage a window that's too big for 2-story foyer conversion?
Comments (4)HI -- I strongly suggest getting an Architect to help you with this . Because of the style of your house you have to be careful of what is done . There is a mixture of window styles and having brick and if the outline is your thoughts on a window , I think that would be the wrong way to go ....See MoreJacob Retana
