Comments (3)Callicarpa americana is a native plant. It is very late to leaf out in my area (so that is a characteristic), and yes, the blooms are very small. The Plants database doesn't show it occuring as north as Mass. Perhaps take some pictures of the leaves and habit and post them on the name that plant forum. Comments (1)Update on my attempt at rooting branch end cuttings of the American Beautyberry: I have had success with rooting a cutting taken in late Sept. I stripped off the lower leaves, used liquid rooting compound and inserted the end of branch tip into damp ProMix. Cut half off of each remaining leaf, misted with water, covered with a 2 liter soda bottle with the top cut out, and kept in the shade. Our nights were in the 60's and days 80's and 90's during this time. It's been about 3 weeks and little roots about 3/4 inch long are showing on the cutting.
