Design Dilemma Furniture Home Decorating

Sofa color for new home

what color would look good in my new living room? Walls are repose gray by sw and the fireplace will have the same stone as in the front of the house. I was thinking light gray but will that wash out the room? with dark gray im afraid it will be too dark with the dark flooring. I have a 1 year old so white and cream won't work. The first room picture is where the sofa will be and thr second is where the dining room table will be. Its an open concept rectanglular room. Any sugguestions on placement would be helpfull too thanks!!

Medium gray or a color. Navy is always beautiful & works as a neutral. Good luck :)

I like this idea but can not tell how big this room must be...my room is about 12 ft 8 inches by 13 ft. What would be on the side opposite the two chairs? I really want to take advantage of the sale tomorrow and spent hours in Urban Barn but maybe it should just be a sectional I buy and not include the Nest chair I originally wanted. The kids really wanted that as this would be our hang out area. I love this look below but need something teens could join me in when lounging/relaxing. Help? Sorry I'm a bit all over with ideas.

You have a flair for decoration and your room is lovely. However, for a room to work comfort comes first and the animal skin looks like a tripping hazard and doesn't seem to leave room for a coffee table. Instead, find a large rug on which to place your furniture which will cover a good part of your space. Make it something beautiful and colorful. Everything here is beige and this room needs color badly. A geometric Oriental rug with mainly blues but also some warm tones would work well. However, if you prefer neutrals then go in that direction. Once the rug is in place I suggest a glass coffee table to break up the solid furniture pieces, or at least an ottoman that has long legs. I'd place another chair to the left of the couch to complete your furniture grouping. Please don't put an oversize monster there but rather a smaller but comfortable upholstered chair to complete your seating.

I think both would work well, but my vote would be the tan one. Once you have a rug, pillows, and other elements in there, it won’t matter that it doesn’t contrast as much.

I'm not in a position to comment on the furniture supplier but would like to make a suggestion regarding your choice of colour for the sectional. On your sketch, you show a white sectional but in your samples some of the colours are quite daring for a large piece of furniture. I would opt for a more subdued colour that you won't get tired of. If you like colour, go for the colour in accent pillows, it your get tired of them, it's not a big expense to change your colour scheme. Here is the sectional in what looks like a greyish green with your favorite rug and flooring.

OMG there is nothing to consider with respect to the room and the color of he sofa. You choose the color of the sofa based on a color scheme you want to execute. Your walls and floor are absolutely neutral, so think about what you like. Please avoid gray unless it is your favorite color ever. Soon gray will look like avocado green if it is not done very purposefully.

Navy is a very popular choice for sofas right now, so is emerald green. Are you interested in those kind of jewel tone? They work nicely with traditional and contemporary decors. You can mix them with a great variety of patterns, which I really like.

Camel and white are also nice possibilities for a sofa.

Do you have thoughts about a rug, curtains, anything else?

Is there a style of sofa you like?

You have a great room. Don't box yourself in just yet. Think about a big picture, then start drilling down to specifics.

thanks Rita, I think im just overwhelmed with all the possible options. I was thinking if I pick a sofa color I could just use that as my starting point. Navy would look nice. I guess I should look at more sample living rooms for color scheme ideas.
