Interesting iridescent tile.

Thx everdebz - I've attached a pic of where I first saw this Iridescence tile. Thought of Subway tile as well, something more subtle but couldn't arrive at a color. I do tend to head towards blues

so apparently that is a 'favorite' color of mine.

Also attached are a few pics of the way the house WAS prior to its demo last week. The soffit was removed. All the walls are currently white - albeit 10 y/o white. As you enter the laundry room the w/d are immediately to the right, they are now stainless and front loading. Beyond will be 2 base cabinets and the wall cabinets will be all across the top above those & the w/d. I won't be putting back a tall pantry type cabinet as in the old photo. Cabinets will have quartz on top but not over w/d. I wanted to but w/d are taller than the base cabinet and stick out farther so would be weird I think. Plus b/c of the plumbing.

Was going to do backsplash there as well but that was part of the problem like paint...the laundry is kind of connected but separate from the kitchen so I'm not clear on whether to continue with the kitchen scheme or make it different or take only part of the kitchen and continue in there. Thanks so much for your help !!!

I was also looking at something like this pic. Problem I think for me is, 'most' of the pics on remodels, whether pinterest, houzz, in a magazine or whatever, they are all BIG houses with LOTS of windows, high ceilings and appear to be homes of the more rich. I personally do not know ANYBODY that lives in these type houses, so it's hard for me to take what i see and scale it down...WAY down...to my cracker box house :) Also is attached is a pic of a similar iridescent tile that's been grouted so looks a little better...i think. Thx again !

Hey thx for everything !! Actually I did not yet do counters or backsplash, that photo of the sea glass type b/s with speckled counter was just to show a better pic of the b/s...I don’t care for the counter with that tho. Mine will be Cambria Torquay it’s a white(ish) background with grey veining with maybe just a very small suggestion of taupe if any.

I LOVE Sea Salt and am going to consider that for the laundry. I also really like that laundry door you sent a link to and the Macdaddy dog print !! My laundry is on south east side, no windows but we usually keep the back door open so it then is pretty light. The flooring for the whole house is kind of a driftwood type but not grey really. Not sure how to describe it. It’s on the lighter side and I’d say it’s slightly warm. I think I tend to stay on the cooler side with a touch of warmth. I think I agree with you about maybe just using paint in the laundry especially with such a pretty color as Sea Salt !!

Will check out the threads as well. I’m new to Houzz so haven’t checked too much out. Looks like it could easily become a full time job !!! Thank you so much for taking the time to offer suggestions and for the links / pics. I really appreciate it !!!

Have you thought about having the cabinets end at the drop down part of your ceiling on the exterior wall? So you have a little more space in the seating area? I would do a small table instead of anything built in. Is there a formal dining room?

I love that palette Irene, that suits me to a T, so peaceful !! I feel like I look at EVERYTHING on the internet but then when I see what others have come up with I wonder why I didn't see it !!! Those colors are really pretty thanks so much !! Yes, Elizabeth, I did think about that bc the dining area is so small. I don't even call it a dining room, I refer to it as a dining 'area' :) No, unfortunately there is no formal dining room but it's okay most of the time bc my husband and I are very different. I generally eat by 6pm he is a late owl eating at around 11 !! Plus I'm more vegetarian like and he is a meat eater so we rarely sit together to eat...probably only when we dine out !! But I would like some kind of place to gather for when someone comes over for dinner which isn't a whole lot but would be nice. I think I agree with you that probable just a table and chairs would be better than a built in. I like the look of a banquette but then they are all from pics of houses that have plenty of room for them. Thanks so much everyone for all your help, you have NO idea how pathetic I am at trying to figure this out on my own !!!

Wow wow wow...you are a plethora of information & ideas thank you so much !! Interesting idea with the sliding glass cabinets ! Nice to see your suggestion of Barren Plain, that is what I went with. It made it to the walls yesterday & I love it !! I'm still toying with alternative backsplash, i like the blue / green beachy glass tile I have but I'm open to other styles / colors. There's not much room under the pony wall, can fit 2 smaller counter-height stools. Was thinking of going with something like these rather than with backs so I can just slide them under so they don't stick out as much into the living room.

And wow again...the pic you attached of the below is VERY close to my kitchen / dining area including placement of the windows. My idea was exactly like this but the bench to the right would not be there as that is where the exit of the dining area is to the adjoining living room. In my dining area there is a little more room to the right of the back window so that is where I was thinking of adding another cabinet but it would be more like the depth of an upper cabinet (12") so it doesn't stick out too far. But this pic is amazingly close to my set up !!! A table that shape could work as long as it was shorter...or an oval shape.

We live in Southern CA so it does get fairly warm. Yes I have 6" ceiling cans in kitchen then a fan / light combo in dining area which is down now bc of the painting so not sure if I'll put that back or get something else. Was looking at pendant lights over the pony wall but will have room for only 2.

I don't get it - will you have table under windows? and also stools by the short wall? why....

why don't you post a pic of the kitchen, w/the cabinets and countertop, for backsplash suggestions? if they aren't in yet, then wait until they're installed. (no 4" piece if doing a tile splash)

Thx everdebz - Initially was table by windows, then someone suggested a banquette (small) so started on that idea. My ex brother-in-law has same floor plan & placed a couple of stools at pony wall as well so that's where THAT idea came from. This dining 'area' is really a kitchenette, it just doesn't look like it belongs as a dining room OR as part of the kitchen...it's been difficult for me to figure out what to do with the darn thing !! An island is out, def no room for that ! I will probably just get a small table & 4 chairs, and call it a day !! It's stressing me out :( We are going on vacation in 2 more days so that will help !!!
