Where to end backsplash when tile goes to ceiling...
Comments (25)Your tile looks great. If it was my kitchen I would not tile above the window. If you could replace that can light above the sink with some type of slightly blingy rectangular or oval semi flush mount light that might look nice. Here are just a few random ones I found (sorry if the pictures are too big). I'm sure other GWers could come up with more options If you didn't want to do a light fixture some horizontal art work piece could be put in the space....See MoreKitchen backsplash height, existing 4" backsplash, and ending dilemma
Comments (9)I have a similar question five years later: Is the 4" matching back splash now out of style? And how long will it stay out of style? Doubt that it would be possible to get a full matching back splash 14 years after the home was built. I am considering removing the 4" back splash and going with a complementary tile or, perhaps, a colorful wallpaper. Thoughts as to how long the short back spash will stay out of style? (I'm old enough to remember bell bottoms - the first time they were in style.)...See MoreWhere do I end my tile backsplash?
Comments (14)Beth H. : Thank you for your suggestions & photos. I will ask our tile guy if they'd be able to do some kind of casing for us around the window. I wish our kitchen window had either a straight rectangle on top or a real arch like the photos you posted. The top window is tricky for me to conceptualize what it would look like without molding. I thought about encasing the whole window with two vertical pieces on the left and right side but the middle piece that separates the top window from the bottom window would be strangely thick. At this point it may be easier to just bring the tile to the red line and add a roman shade over the top of the bottom window but I'm not 100% sure yet. As for the tile, we are doing the plain subway tile pattern. I thought about herringbone for the backsplash but my husband and I love the classic look. We are weird with patterns and not gutsy enough to try anything bold lol. Our kitchen has a lot of white in it and we went with honey/light cinnamon colored floors to keep it very neutral. I change color schemes at least once every two months so it made sense to keep it very neutral for us....See Moretile around windows? backsplash advice pleas
Comments (9)are you doing window trim? if you get wide enough trim to go to the cabinet sides, you can stop the tile. or, you could use the tile as the trim and go all the way up or tile all the way up w/trim around the window. I like these looks the best with the window trim ^ or without the trim: if you can swing it, get a sill made from your countertop material I still like it up to the ceiling. even w/the casing. sconce is nice too make sure you get bullnose tile edges for the ends (or use a Schluter Jolly or a pencil liner) some diff ways to tile inside the window. this looks a little messier than doing bull nose edges stopping w/the underside of cabs. they used a pencil liner here. and window casing....See MoreRelated Professionals
