Undercabinet lighting - how far apart?
Comments (1)My xenon pucks have 20W lamps. You may have the 10W variety, so adjust my answer accordingly. I never looked at my puck light spacing until you asked this question. It appears that our installers (who did a nice job) centered the puck lights in the middle of each cabinet (both L-R and F-B). These are on 18, 21, 24, and 36 inch wide cabinets. Looking at the finished product, it is a pleasing effect to have the light sources centered below each cabinet door. Dimensionally, our lights work out this way: For a 24" and 18" cabinet combo, the puck spacing is: (open side) 12/21/9 (range) For a combo of 21", 36" and 24" cabinets: (open side) 10.5/20/18/21/12 (corner lazy susan) I think the important criteria for our installers was to center the pucks on the doors, which is what I would suggest. Hope this helps....See MoreTwo sofas facing each other - how far is too far apart?
Comments (7)Thanks guys! You've reassured me that at least I have a backup plan that will work. (magnaverde - that picture cracks me up, LOL!) But I think I will try to post a floor plan w/ measurements and some pics at some point (can't do it today - have some family stuff to go to) and get your collective thoughts on what kind of furniture would work in here. Maybe someone here will have the brilliant flash of insight that's been eluding me for 8 years! It's funny that you mention the weirdness of new house layouts becuase although our house is fairly new, it was built to look like a 200 year old farmhouse and many of the things that were added to give that antique charm are also what make the room so hard to furnish (a half-height stone wall along the back of the room, one entire wall taken up by an off-center colonial-styled paneled fireplace with built in closets to each side that hide the entertainment components, a good chunk of the flooring is very bumpy fieldstone - it serves well as a hearth for the fireplace but it's way too lumpy to sit furniture on, etc.) It all looks beautiful, but it really doesn't function for a family who just wants to hang out and watch tv. I will definitely do up a floor plan and some pictures -- hopefully sometime this coming week. Our current furniture is circa mid-90s, navy blue, and overstuffed (ugh, what was I thinking?) -- it served us well, but now that the kids have outgrown the jump-on-the-furniture-stage, I can't wait to replace it. I'm sure I won't have the funds for a while, but it would be nice to have a vision to save toward....See MoreHow far apart to put recessed lighting in kitchen and where
Comments (3)No ceiling fan in the kitchen PLEASE. Recessed is best over the sink, pendants appropriate to island, and recessed must be placed in front of cabinetry allowing them to shine on counter tops......usually about 18 inches off the wall. Better, is to use under cabinet lighting, and place recessed in foot traffic areas to augment perimeter and island lighting. The fan is a "no" as this is the very last place you want dust blowing......and there are far better/more attractive ways to light the island....See MoreTête à tête or 20 ft? Comments (6)My space is very small, but if I move the chairs and sofa to take up what little space there is, they're too far apart! I'm quite gobsmacked. I have to walk through that sitting area (i.e. over the rug) to get to the bedrooms and bathroom. The blue recliner will likely not be staying. Recliners are not my thing, but it was a gift. I don't have a TV and won't....See MoreRelated Professionals
