Slugs invading bone dry lawn

Dear All

This is seriously weird. In London we have had virtually no rain for two months and as a result our front lawn is dry and yellowing. I’m not bothered about that as it will green up in the autumn. But what is disturbing is that every evening the lawn is now getting invaded by slugs. We can no longer enjoy sitting out on the lawn in the evening as there are slugs everywhere. It is truly disgusting but also inexplicable. What are they doing there? There is nothing for them to eat. The thing I can think of is that last week I sprinkled the lawn so perhaps they are eating shoots of any grass that started growing as a result.

All thoughts/advice gratefully received

David
