New carpet install; stapled pad

SA Gilbert

We just had new carpet installed. It was very expensive and ifs very plush. They stapled the carpet pad and you can literally feel every divot where there is a staple. We have about 1000 sq ft of carpet on the main level living area/great room. We paid over $10K just for the carpet and pad. The install was additional. I love the carpet. But I just can't get past feeling of the lumps. It is like walking on lumpy moving blankets. Is this normal? Acceptable? Our old pad and carpet held up well for 17 years and that pad was not stapled. It also makes popping noise all along the border where it meets the tile in kitchen and patio area. Should it do that? It almost sounds like it isn't sticking to the tacks. Thanks.
