Use the blade at an angle to scrape up the baked on foodstuff. Once it's scraped off, then clean with the Ceramabryte.

BonAmi is the inexpensive cleaner of choice with a 3M scratch-free scrubbing pad.. But you're in for an ongoing never ending difficult job. 750+ degrees heat bakes anything solidly on that glass and the bottom of your pans. Had you bought induction where the pan and not the glass heats you could wipe the surface clean with a paper towel and light soap. I'd advise any friend to return the stove and get induction. The heat response is near instant with induction vs takes minutes with yours. I'd help with the return.

Dan the whole reason I didn't get into a discussion of induction vs electric was for 2 reasons.

1. This is obviously a done deal so making the OP feel bad helps no one.

2. A decent electric stove is $500-$800. Induction stoves start at double that price.

Nothing is 'done' for her with the cleaning and the incredibly poor responsiveness of an electric stove with glass top. This may still be her one chance to just take it back and get credit for a product so incredibly better in every way that the price difference will be forgotten the first week she uses it. I'm betting after a week the OP would be happy to give up some future anythings to avoid the surface and heating response she now has. And they absolutely do not tell you about either of those problems before you buy. . . .Cast iron works perfectly on induction. Any magnetic pots will. Solid aluminum will not. But there are many excellent pans out there at all price points.

Do you even know what it is you’re trying to remove? Is it something that was baked-on or is it leftover from a product sticker or packaging?

Edited to add “potentially marring,” and that If it’s foodstuff, you could try to soften it using a dish rag dipped in steaming hot water.

You have experience with electric glass but nothing with induction to compare it to. You can take your cast iron pan to an appliance store and try induction in many cases. Miele has experience centers in some cities. A little first hand fun is worth more than all my internet patter, for sure. Frigidaire has a good lower priced induction range. GE Café has knobs with infinite variability in the power control. They had problems with an older model.

I did consider induction but I love my cast iron and Caphalon hard anodized pots and pans and did not think I could use either on induction.

Cast iron works on induction. The anodized, I don't think so. Honestly it was worth my buying a new set of pots for all the positives of induction. I'm so glad I did.

My budget was $1,000 and this one is just fine for the price and the price point of my home.

I agree with you. Much as I prefer induction, budget not only for the stove but also for new cookware needs to be considered. Plus as you mentioned, the price point of the home also needs to be considered.

I've had more ceramic top electric stoves than I care to remember and everyone in the past came with a razor to scrape off burnt on food. What she has there is burnt on food.

No, they have a product for ceramic tops. It is available at the big boxes (Home depot, etc)

Dan, I agree with you that induction is the way to go.

I love that mine boils water in 90 seconds and I can clean up any messes with a wet paper towel and a drop of soap. I also love that I can put paper towels under my pans while I'm cooking, so when grease spatters, it's less to clean up. I love that the cooktop stays relatively cool and doesn't heat up. I love that I no longer need a separate rice cooker because I can boil the water and then on the same burner immediately turn it down and it's so responsive, it will cool down immediately.

Like you I am an induction devotee!

However even the Fridgedaire is around $950. Add in quality pots and pans and the OP will be over budget. Plus the OP has stated she's fine with her stove so why make her feel bad?

Get the Ceramabryte kit that has the scrubbie and the razor blade scraper holder. It is much safer than trying to use one from the paint department.

My whole reasoning is from hoping Pat can take advantage of being in the return time frame and she may want to see if making a change that I admit will require a lot of effort could change her cooking experience 1000% for the better for years to come. This Chantal non-stick is my favorite. Copper and titanium mixed in with the steel make them very responsive even on ceran.

I know the induction/electric debate has been debated. Like dan and cp, I love my induction. So much that I persuaded my cousin to switch from electric in her recent reno. She hates it.

Oh, I’m in the induction camp too for a new project that hasn’t already committed to traditional radiant. My BIL loves how easy it is to clean up his extravagant messes. My sister views it with the same suspicion that a cat views a weird bug crawling across the floor. She may need to jump back 10 feet in a single bound if it makes a buzz.

cp, I realize I don't know what brand she bought but she feels like she can't get the hang of the heat settings, like she's always turning them up or down. I think that was her issue. We're getting together in a couple weeks - I'll definitely have to check with her.

Another method for some stuff on mine is the Magic Eraser. Razor too.

Anodized only works if it has a steel plate on the bottom, like Circulon.

Put more pressure on the pad when you're scrubbing that spot and scrub in different directions, horizontal, verical, diagonal, in circles. It eventually will rub off. Also make sure to shake up the bottle of Cerama Bryte before you use it and use a new yellow scrub pad.

The Cerama-Bryte razor scraper is what I use.

barncatz, Frigidaire, Bosch and Miele induction cooktops have half steps to adjust power. 18 or so choices. Others can have less. Maybe eleven. This could be where she's having difficulties.

In order to get rid of stubborn stains, sprinkled one tablespoon of baking soda, salt, and water on the stove. After that, dip a clean cloth in a hot vinegar. Spread this cloth over the stove and wait for at least 5 minutes. Then remove this cloth and scrub away the grime on the stove. Wipe this process repeatedly until the grime is removed. Finally, clean it with a dry cloth to shine.

Bar Keepers Friend powdered cleanser will remove that residue.

You may have tried this. Gently scrub the spot with dish soap and water and dobie pad or green scrub pad. Works for me 99% of the time. If a little more power is needed, I sprinkle a very teeny tiny amount of barkeepers (like a few grains) on the stove top and remove with soap and water. Have you let the cerama bright dry before wiping off? I also like Perfect Cooktop. Home Depot and HomeGoods carry it.
