Need Help on Entry Door, Garage Doors, and Shutters

Hi All,

I have a house built in 1998 and am planning to update the exterior look (have to really because they aren't working properly). Anyway, would love to hear some ideas on how to make the entry more inviting and on coordinating a new entry door, garage door, and shutters.

So, what type and color for

entry door

garage doors

shutters

Also, should I eventually add a portico? Thoughts appreciated!

A stained wood-look finish would add a lot of warmth and character to the brick. Adding windows to your garage door would brighten up the garage and make the side of the house feel more welcoming.

Hi Cindy, the brick is "Old Orleans" by Cherokee brick. Its a great looking brick with lots of character. The mortar was rubbed over the brick to achieve the aged look. I put the same post in the home decorating forum with a couple more up close pictures if you care to see any more of this brick.

Oly - Don't mind sharing at all... Its 3100 sq/ft, 4 br and 3.5 baths. The balcony area is off the bonus room and not the master. Here are some pictures from soon after we moved in so it looks a little bare but truth be told we are still trying to get the place properly decorated! Maggie - thank you very much... I was just trying to find out what company did the shutters so I could find the exact color but wasn't able to get that info. It was one of the color options from the shutter manufacturer so we didn't pick out the paint at home depot or whatever. I'll dig around some more and hopefully get the color name to you. We were looking for that french blue look and think we found just that so we were very pleased.

Be aware that most folks here despise decorative shutters that are too skinny for the Windows and refer to them as "shudders". It doesn't matter if your home was built with them. Consider adding wider trim to all of the windows. If budget allows, consider a portico for the entryway. Paint the garage doors the same color as the brick. Paint the shutters dark green or remove them. Remove the overgrown shrub to the left of the stairs or prune it back to match the height of the taller shrubs on the other side of the stairs.
