Mail Order source for Wafer Ash
Comments (11)I got one from Mail Order Natives 3 years ago but must have planted it in a "bad" place because it didn't make it...all the other plants in the Larval Plant kit did fine but I had her sub a A.tormentosa for the PawPaw...we don't get Zebras here. I also bought 2---3 gallon plants from Texas Discovery Gardens Plant sale they had fall last year. They weren't tall but the curator reasured me that with the Hop Ash...it has to get a good root base before you see much growth above ground.(Roots were to the edges of the container) I also bought a Prickly Ash from TDG sale & it is about 2 1/2 feet tall & is also a GST host plant. It is planted out in an open area because of the thorns! They have the sale in the spring in May & fall in November if I remember right. I am posting a link to it... I have checked for at least 3 years with North Haven Gardens & they have never had them there...unless they do now. I even tried at Rohde's in Garland & they don't carry them either! I am west of DFW but go to Dallas several times a month. Keep us posted where you end up getting one! Comments (3)Hi, Rhizo. I can only imagine how bad it is out in the woods-- haven't gone out there. Too much crunching! But out there, I'm sure the corpses will be eaten up soon enough. I just dumped them over the side of the deck, figuring the ants will surely come for them, and they'll be gone in a week. The noise is all gone now, and fewer flying around every day....See MoreStink (?) bugs
Comments (53)Hi from a neighbor in central Virginia. We didn't see any of these until about 3 years ago. Now in the fall they land on the house by the hundreds. And, there are THOUSANDS in the attic. They especially like to overwinter in the folds of hanging clothing: armpits, lapels, seams are highly desirable stinkbug condos. And anything else with folds: flaps of cardboard cartons, folded towels. (We had the misfortune to have had the interior of our new home painted in the fall. The painters left all the windows open at the time the beasts were swarming and our home has become a very popular vacation spot.) We also live next to an apple cold-storage plant. We've resigned ourselves for the moment to the same method we used to successfully remove acres of kudzu from our property: brute force. Yesterday we spent 2 hrs in the attic with a vacuum cleaner hose and sucked the buggers up. The powerful turbine of our vac pulverized them. Plastic storage boxes seem to have kept them out of boxed clothes. One post here recommended using permethrin and related chemicals. I read a permethrin label that was downright scary in details of its toxicity. The suggestioin to use a light trap is intriguing, though. Looking forward to hearing about your stinkbug adventures and solutions!...See MoreAnxiety!!! ugh!!!
Comments (19)Hi DeeDee, One thing that has helped me is to accept that I am who I am. Am I the person I always dreamed I would be? No. But I'm a decent person in spite of all my hangups. I have ADD and fibromyalgia, and its done a number on my brain/memory/thinking. When my kids were little and in school, I was afraid to volunteer at their school, because I got confused so easily. Plus, I just was never comfortable in those kinds of social situations. But I tried to do it. It didn't work out. I felt really bad about it for awhile, then realized that I just wasn't going to change and become a different person. So I began to try to learn to accept who I was. I began to accept my limitations. That has helped me alot. I no longer come down on myself because I'm not a social butterfly, or because I can't do what everyone else seems able to do so easily. I've also discovered that sometimes I fight my feelings. Like if I'm scared to do something that absolutely has to be done...I try to stop making the fear go away, and just let it happen. sometimes trying to stop an emotion is harder than just letting it be. When you go out to sell your candy to a business, just say to yourself, "I'm scared to do this. I hate this feeling. But its okay to feel scared. I'm going to go to that business, being scared, and that's okay." Am I making any sense? I'm not very good at explaining things. Try not to waste energy on trying to stop a feeling you have. Just feel it, while moving forward. Sometimes it helps me to feel like a screen, instead of a solid wall, and I try to let the anxiety go through me, instead of piling up on me. Are you stressed alot because of your dad? I divorced my parents a long time ago. It was amazing how better it made me feel. I was free of that toxic stuff that was always coming from them. Awhile back, when I realized that I wasn't the kind of person who could be real social, or help at school, etc., I tried to focus on the things that I COULD do and the things that I could do without the anxiety. That usually meant trying to be a really good mother and teacher to my kids, and making good, nutritious meals, and making a comfortable home for them. Try to focus on the things that you ARE comfortable with, and do them well, and be proud of yourself. I'll stop now. Oh....one question........who in the world told you menopause was supposed to be a great thing to look forward too????? LOL! It must have been either a man or someone who hadn't gone through it yet! hahaha...See MoreKC Clark - Zone 2012-6a OH
