It's pretty adaptable :-) Not overly fussy about pH, very tolerant of moist conditions but is quite drought tolerant once established. Will grow in sun or shade although fall coloring will be best in more sun. FYI, there IS a Shrub forum here on GW as well. While you will no doubt get responses on this and other forums, you may get far more on the one that is dedicated to growing the type of plants in question. Just a suggestion for future reference :-)

Iteas do sucker, but are definitely controllable. However, they're not fond of dry soil. What kind of tree is there, and when you say partial shade, is that morning or afternoon, or alternatively dappled shade most of the day?

hi poaky1, There is an interesting story about the preservation of Battle Creek Swamp. It seems a group of conservation minded ladies set out to protect the naturally occuring site from being logged in the '50's. This was the first aquisition of the Nature Conservancy in our state. Delaware has a couple also, Trap Pond is linked. As I understand it, BC's occurance in the Mississippi Valley extends northward to southern Indiana & Illinois. Hi Pearly, I have two, not doing that well, but alive. One died. I got them from Adams Newburgh 2 years ago. They like a lot of water, and droop when they don't get it. Not sure about the PH, but I seem to remember "neutral" or "adaptible" on the label, or I wouldn't have put them where they are. I remember the roots/runners being very thick and fleshy and unwinding into long, tan off-shoots. I'm actually getting rid of mine, if you want them. If you do, let me know asap, they'll be in containers soon! They don't fit the way my landscape is going. I'm looking for stronger colors. So, Free to good home!
