Need countertop suggestions to warm up my kitchen
Comments (4)Hmmm. all good questions and suggestions. DH is also worried about wood maintenance. I want to talk with a distributor about that. I was thinking the counter DH and most everyones else uses could be completely sealed/varnished and perhaps the one by the range (that I would use most) be oiled. I don't know if it's too noticeable to look at. If so, I could varnish all of it too. If it's out of my budget (we're still working on that), then what should I do about the sides if I go with granite on the island? Wood costs about the same, I think as granite. Ugh, I'm great at making lots of decisions but then I can get fixated on one detail!...See MoreMixing warm and cool colors
Comments (5)Since you're pulling the color from the accent tiles in the existing backsplash, Grassland will certainly go just fine. If you can find towels, shower curtain, rug, that sort of thing in a somewhat deeper version of the Grassland color (say, more like Connected Gray, two shades down on the same strip as Grassland - try JCPenney) that would look VERY snazzy and provide a bridge or balance between the darker cherry cabinets and the light tiles and walls. I know I've posted this picture a squintillion times, but here's the secondary bath in my previous house combining both warm and cool colors and dark and light hues - light blue walls, white trim/vanity top/toilet (couldn't afford to replace the Barbie-beige tub unit though so we hid it behind a nice shower curtain), dark-chocolate brown cabinets, medium-toned shades-o'-beige floor......See MoreNeed you to tell me mixing cool with warm is ok.
Comments (7)I've paired grey walls with creams, golds and some Browns and even reds in my house too. (All warm colors). The greys I've used have brown in them too. The only time I see a problem in my house is in photos...sometimes the color looks more blue in my crappy camera photos but IRL they look good. At least in my opinion. I also found quite a few items that tie my choices together, area rugs, pillows, back splash, etc. I love these colors together...See Moreadvice on mixing countertops, please
Comments (9)When you remove the extra piece, lay it against the existing counter to see if the pattern 'flows'. You never know how a seam is going to look until it's done, and in this case there won't be a replacement for a bad seam. I think wood that matches the island, taken to the wall, would look OK there, and it will kind of follow the lines of the MW shelf. (It will also be great for kneading bread dough. I found out today that you can proof bread dough in the MW--thank you mrspete.) Using wood on each side of the range doesn't mean that you can't use it in the corner, too, as long as it's functional. If someone raises an eyebrow about the wood (and I'll bet it will never happen), tell them it's part of your baking zone. ;)...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
