shower threshold and half wall - tile on top or solid piece?
Comments (21)When you're measuring how wide your threshold or wall cap is, make sure you aren't just measuring the width of the drywalled wall -- you have to add to the width the thickness of tile and the thinset which will adhere the tile on both sides. (Because of the lead time you may need to get your pieces cut, you typically will order the threshold or wall cap once the structure is built but before it's been tiled.) Your tile installer may want to have the finished pieces on-hand before tiling; there can be some wiggle-room adjustments made if everything is available before the tile or caps are installed. In this picture, you can see some of the granite pieces (same granite used for the vanity top) we used in our shower. Our contractor suggested using the solid granite pieces for the top of the curb, the top of the two half walls, and the door jambs (the vertical walls) and it both looks and functions very well. (Sorry I don't have a picture handy which shows the whole thing -- just imagine the curb across the door opening in the same piece of granite.) -- Eric...See Morecross post/micro over cook top
Comments (4)Unfortunately I think you have to delete it and make a new one. Hopefully you can copy paste your first post verbiage and pic into a new one and then delete this one. Sorry but I think it would get more attention that way!...See More2 separate units possible where micro/wall oven combo is now?
Comments (9)Thanks to the three of you for the input and ideas. This is a rather simple birch cabinetry piece ( built to match the vintage in our early 1900s house). My husband can do wiring, and we have a basement so I am not worried about that. And, I still have the stain so that could be matched. One of the reasons I'd thought about this option rather than just sliding in a complete new unit was because I know that today's appliances do not seem to last as long as the older ones. (Mine are still functional but are looking a bit tacky and long in the tooth.) And, with an integrated unit like this if the microwave goes, the entire appliance is no longer any good. But, this is perhaps now sounding like it may be more bother than it is worth. Fiddling around to reconfigure the cabinetry I'd probably end up spending the same amount of money as just buying the more expensive replica unit. With two singles rather than one integrated set I'd get more options to choose from. But, frankly, I already have a nice, new Wolf range so this would be a secondary oven. And, to me, a microwave is a microwave is a microwave. I guess I'll have to do some more thinking the whole thing through. Comments (6)Sina and Debbi...Thank you...both. Your comments are well-taken. (I already have 3 professional tenants whose schedules are such that one lovely master bathroom works for all on 2nd and 3rd floor suites.) *I live in a prime, respectful neighborhood adjacent to Syracuse U a private university, thus visiting professors, visiting nurses and an international community love this set-up already. So...would you recommend expanding into kitchen/refrigerator area OR mess with infringing on expansiveness of dining or living room area adjacent to bedroom on other side of 1st floor? YES! Awesome tile that actually blends with the 1928 character of my home. Yes, I love preserving character, yet also know that the joy for me is in inviting warm, wonderful people into my life so I can join with other seniors as I become one myself! Thank you so much!!!...See MoreUser
