Suggestions for 2nd story balcony
Comments (2)I am sure that your remodel will be constructed different from the one we had added on our home when we built. The entire two stories of our home is brick, however they did not brick between the deck and the house, hence we have had a major leak during heavy rain. We now have to replace the entire deck, cut back the upper roof, change out the doors, on and on, a major remodel. So be careful and aware. I don't know the price, but we have Trex decking and it is no maintenance and there are good looking choices now. There are also many other companies that make no maintenance decking and I would use that type of product it will save you so much cost and labor in the future. Comments (25)Angled walls create dead and slivers of unusable space. Most people want to be able to use every square foot they pay for. The curved wall does not relate to anything, it is an oddity, and it a lot easier to draw than it is to build; and a 90 degree corner costs less that a rounded corner (if you can find someone to build it properly). My other comments from the previous thread still apply....See MoreWhat is the cost of deck off 2nd story master bedroom?
Comments (13)@Virgil - Great questions. I don't see us building a fancy deck, just something that matches the house (beach style with hip roof, hardy board siding). Where could I do some research on building materials? For option 1, I would imagine a deck like this one, [https://www.houzz.com/photos/32nd-street-craftsman-exterior-los-angeles-phvw-vp~209718[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/32nd-street-craftsman-exterior-los-angeles-phvw-vp~209718). For option 2, I would imagine a deck like this one, [https://www.houzz.com/photos/630-b-beach-style-exterior-san-diego-phvw-vp~90504781[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/630-b-beach-style-exterior-san-diego-phvw-vp~90504781). For option 3, I would imagine a no-deck-look like this one, [https://www.houzz.com/photos/incredibly-green-home-of-chevy-chase-craftsman-exterior-seattle-phvw-vp~360047[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/incredibly-green-home-of-chevy-chase-craftsman-exterior-seattle-phvw-vp~360047). @kudzu9 - I live in San Diego (yes, I know, expensive). I wish it was like asking, "How much does a new car cost?" because I could go online and figure that out in 10 minutes. And I'd know that I'd never have to pay more than the sticker price! @Sophie - Thankfully, you're not the CFO of my company. ;) $68k is a trip around the world with my family....See MoreAdding Slope To Tiled Porch With 2nd Story Above & Basement Below
Comments (4)Either way minimum slope is 1/4" per running foot. The 1/8" would be better than nothing. But to do it right.... That said, being you're only an inch under the door, not sure you have enough room to do the 1/4" per foot. One other thing you need to think about though-- is flashing up the wall and under the door. even something like Grace Ice and Water Shield. Otherwise you may still have problems....See Moresara169
