Thanks to you both. A minor update: I peered closely at the vanity and noticed that the baseboards were cut out to accommodate it, so it does make sense to leave the vanity in place rather than gettng into the hassle of matching and patching the missing trim. And I took my Silestone sample over so I could look at it with vanity, tub, and tlles and I really like the look. I see, however, that I could get an American Standard fireclay top for only about $170, which would look nice and clean and might be the most practical option. Hmm... I took a couple more pics of the vanity, which I'll post a little later.

My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

post a picture of the bathroom. just did my neighbors little bathroom. they had one of those older cultured marble vanities that extended over above the toilet. it was a right offset at 40" or so. we removed it and put in a 36" vanity w/a remnant quartz piece. doing a wall mount faucet gives you more counter space and easier to clean. Here's the vanity,,,right off set sink. hardware is acrylic/metal prob could have gone w/a 40" vanity and 1/2 inch overhang, but it would have been close to the toilet. and lots of vanities here on Houzz.

Ikea vanity looks really nice. Thanks for sharing. We looked at vanities from Wayfair, AllModern, Ikea, etc., but opted to work with a local woodworker. It felt good to support a neighborhood artisan. When we come up for air we'll have him craft built-ins and purchased add'l Walnut with that in mind. At this point the Brio valves are roughed in for the shower and wall mount lav faucet so there's no turning back. To clarify, my question is when pairing an undermount sink with a wall mounted faucet and 24x20 countertop for use in a master bath - what's the most functional shape or is there no discernible difference?
