Washer/Dryer Recommendation?
Comments (2)I'm not really sure if any machine made today will last as long as the old ones did, but I am hopeful. I purchased my Bosch Nexxt series FL washer and dryer over 6 years ago, and have been very happy with them. FL's are very different, require much less soap, and a bit of care. My machine does smell a bit musty if I close it and don't do a load for a week. Otherwise, I just leave it open to air out overnight and it does fine. I've also discovered the type of detergent I use (often too much) makes it smell even more. These machines use much less water, therefore if you use too much soap, it doesn't get rinsed out, possibly causing some of the smell. I never notice a smell when I use Persil soap, or when I use just a tablespoon of liquid soap. My soap does seem to last forever! As for dryers, mine has never had a problem with drying things completely. There is a sensor behind the lint collector that senses when things are dry. If you use dryer sheets, the product in the sheet clogs the lint screens squares, blocking the sensor and the dryer can stop working well. I was told by my appliance guy to never use dryer sheets in these newer type of machines for that reason. I have only used liquid softener in my washer and I never worry about static, and my dryer has never not worked exceptionally well, even with larger loads. One thing though, the Bosch dryers get super hot, so I changed my flexible duct for a solid one, mainly to decrease the risk of fire with it being so hot. I also clean out beneath my dryer's lint collector with a long skinny brush to remove any lint that may not come out with the screen, and also vacuum that area once a year. I think it's a small amount of maintenance that has kept my machines doing well. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to ask the Bosch technician a ton of questions when the washer's seal came off my machine 2 weeks after I got it. I learned some valuable information and have had no problems with my machines since following his advice. I'm very happy with my set, and I do hope they last another 10 years or more....See MorePlease recommend a washer/dryer
Comments (6)You will be hard pressed, IMHO, to find a US made (I don't think there are any besides speedqueen) washer/dryer combo that is any kind of quality. Quality costs money. I know you said American, but Miele and Bosch are really the only reliable game in town for stackable washer/dryers. They sell many more of them than any "US" company will. Siemens, which owns Bosch, is also a good brand and considered the premium brand when companred to Bosch. Siems pulled out of the US market a year back and is pushing Bosch only in this country. There are fantastic deals on brand new Siemens units on e-bay and in clearance outlets. Siemens line in the US is called the Ultrastack. I own the condensor dryer with a Bosch was24460uc washer. They are very well built units. The dryer (condensor or vented) is on e-bay now for $349. This was almost a $1000 when it was sold in Best Buy. It is a fantastic deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/Siemens-Bosch-ultraStack-WT36V100US-24-Electric-Dryer-/380245985315?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Dryers&hash=item58886d4823 Here is a Bosch Axxis washer (one model down from the one I own) with a starting bid of $399 (originally $1000 washer): http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Bosch-Axxis-Compact-Washing-Machine-White-WFL2060UC-/250654902330?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Washing_Machines&hash=item3a5c32483a Here is an auction format Bosch was24460uc washer that is brand new (but missing a front cover which you can get from Bosch parts for $20) currently bid up to $100. This washer is sold at sears and other places for around $1400 now. http://cgi.ebay.com/BOSCH-WAS24460UC-AXXIS-WASHER-/230491765954?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Washing_Machines&hash=item35aa613cc2 Here is a matching Bosch pair WAS24460UC / WTE86300US for $1199. http://cgi.ebay.com/Bosch-Axxis-Series-24-Front-Load-Washer-dryer-/380245611256?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0amp;hash=item58886792f8 I highly suggest you look at these and forget the US brands....See MoreNeed Dryer Recommendations for Speed Queen Washer
Comments (17)mamapinky0 Can you give me a link to the SQ thread? I'll be more than happy to post there. I am still new to houzz, sorry. mrb6228 the max depth in my laundry closet is 31". With the dryer vent attached, I need at least 4" clearance in the back. Width isn't an issue. ci_lantro the dryerbox would be ideal but I am not able to tear down a wall to install this. My understanding is that's the only way it can be done. Am I correct? plllog I can't make modifications to my wall and it's not a new build. Right now I am just focusing on getting the SQ washer and will settle for a non SQ dryer. When I have more space, then I can get the SQ dryer....See MoreWho Recommends their Compact Washer/Dryer & Why?
Comments (19)I looked at local Craigslist. Someone was selling an old stacked pair with a dryer that didn't always work LOL! That's about the speed around here. So no go. Elux and LG are the two best options. LG pair is $400 more than Elux. Both on sale. Both with heaters; 1400 rpm spin. LG with decent waranty. Elux doesn't specify waranty and requires a call to find out. Does anyone thing LG is worth the upcharge? Can't recall any fans. Miele is advantageous when selling but meaningless for renting as no one cares IMO. I've seen so many rentals and it's always BOL stuff. I would be better off with those jumbo machines (oddly same price) but my loads are so small it's ridiculous....See MoreVickilynn Haycraft
