8ft kitch ceiling, what type of light over island?
Comments (27)Thought I would update the thread I started when I was trying to figure out what type of light to get for above the island with an 8 foot ceiling. Well here are some pics. We chose a pendant light we found (Juno onyx) at Design Expo. With our GC's help we got a flat ceiling mount/transformer (the one at the store was more conical) We wanted something with a low profile, because of the 8 ft ceiling. We love it. Thanks to all of you for your invaluable help. Here are some close up pics of the lights....See Morewhat size pendant lights for 7.5 x 4.5 kitchen island
Comments (2)It all depends on how many pendants you want to have. for a 90" island you probably want 3-5 pendants. An odd number of pendants over an island works best. Let's say in your case the island is 90" and you want to have 3 pendants- 10" diameter each. Combined all diameter will be 30"... 90"-30"=60" 3 pendants+1 =4 (number of spaces in between the lights and ends of the island. Now take 60/4=15" that will give you the distance between each light. This is just an example: Layout How it will look in reality. You can go with 3-12" pendants and reduce space in between, or put smaller pendants over the overhang area if you have it and add a few recessed lights over the main area, or you can put 2 larger pendants but that would be more like mini chandeliers, over the entire area. There is a few ways this can be done depends on the look you want to have. Good luck...See MoreKitchen Island Pics Please! 4x4ft or 4x5ft, Seating on 2 Sides
Comments (11)How many people are you planning to seat at this island? I'm asking b/c you need these minimums for island seating: 24" per person linear space Two people cannot share a corner 15" overhang of clear leg/knee space A 5'x5' island will not comfortably seat four. Expand it by a minimum of 3" (6" would be better) to get the minimum size for an island that seats four: 63" x 48" (Yes, even 3" will make a difference. Keep in mind that the 24" per seat is the minimum, not the ideal. Ideal is closer to 30" per seat.) Both island sizes (4'x4' & 4'x5') with seating on two adjacent sides will only accommodate three people: Note: The minimums are for short to average height/size people. If you and/or your family are tall, I recommend a deeper overhang with 30" per seat (but 24" per seat will probably suffice)...taller people generally take up more space overall....See Moreprep sink on 8ft x 3ft island?
Comments (4)You do not need it. At all. You need a better placement of apps in the kitchen plan. Where's the other side of the kitchen? Nothing is in a good place, and this is a kitchen that needs a RANGE. In order to get a decent plan? You need to provide dimensions. Of the entire space, and all openings, and the OTHER SIDE. A CABINET SELLER PLANNED THIS.........................: ( ?? START OVER. Nobody here can do it for you, unless you give us dimensions, walls etc open to what /where and helpful, pictures of the existing space. What you have here? NOT good. You may have your reasons for a cook TOP, but this isn't the kitchen for that. Don't DO this plan is my point....See MoreDaniel Fischer
