I really didn't think my husband would go for an expensive rug. There aren't many places to shop for rugs around here so I was looking on Overstock and Home decorators. My husband is big on shopping locally (I have made terrible Overstock rug purchases). I will post better pictures of the whole room (hard to do because my house is small). paint_chips, yeah the coffee table bothers me, too. I wish there was somewhere else I could use it. I was worried that a pad would make a trip hazard. This is the formal room in the house, it's not like we're going to be lounging on it, so maybe the texture shouldn't be that big of an issue. les917, I agree, I think my furniture looks too soft (and puny) with the bold look of the rug. You might want to try looking at Overstock, at least for ideas. They have a huge selection. You can sort by size (start with 8x10 or 8x11), then add other things like style (contemporary, I would assume), colors, price, etc. If I were choosing, I wouldn't do the C&B rug. Your art is narrow stripes and that rug is basically stripes. I'd rather pick up some of those colors with different pattern. That's more interesting to me -- and it can compliment rather than repeat or compete with the art. I entered floral because I was trying to find one I saw over the weekend. You have very plain furniture and can do something a little different with your rug. Not everyone can -- which is why I would look at those options, for fun, and because you might find a great deal. I saw one 8x10 wool for $161 and you can probably get 10% off. If you pay that or even two or three times that, you can afford to have fun. If you are making a larger investment, you probably want it to be something you want to look at for a long time. Keep your furniture placement in mind when you look at the patterns. Some will calm down an others will get lost. Have fun looking.

I do have a couple of the polypropylene rugs, one I got from Overstock, one from Amazon. I will say that they look better in the photos. I think in person there is no mistaking they are synthetic. They have a shininess to them that my wool rugs don't have. One of the rugs is a runner I use in my kitchen. I love the look of an oriental in the kitchen but I wasn't about to spend several hundred on a rug that could get spaghetti sauce dripped on it. The other is in my bedroom. I haven't noticed any staining or poor wear. I will say that our household consists of two adults that don't wear outdoor shoes inside and a small decorous calico cat. I can't say how they would hold up with children or large dogs. Kitchen runner

I think this rug is more similar in colors to your photo than the Anastasia wool rug. This is a poly mix, comes in many sizes and it less expensive. FYI, I found it googling “over dyed, poly blend, Kirman Oriental in style”.
