Help! Need Ideas for Photo Organization & Storage!!
Comments (15)Camlan: you are one awesome ~ and super organized~ person! You've inspired me and I love your ideas and system!!! I'm following your system. After I read your suggestions, I ran down to the local Dollar Tree where I picked up 10 large plastic shoe boxes, ($10) which will temporarily hold my photos as I sort through them. I also bought 2 packs of (20 total) manila file folders ($2) that I'm going to cut up into dividers for each box to categorize the pics by year and then subcategories for events, holidays and whatever. I like your idea about scanning the best onto flash drives. I can store the master FD in our safe deposit box, I guess. I'd like to create DVDs with special events, holidays, vacations on them vents on them and then make copies for our two kids . . . eventually. I just went back to look at my intimidatingly huge box of photos and I'm so glad that I now have a plan of action to deal with them! Thank you for taking the time to put your ideas down for me and for many of us here who are in similar situations. I really appreciate it! Now, has anybody created their own DVD's from their scanned photos? I do want to make up some myself. I'm too frugal and too creative to have some company do it for me . . . but is it very difficult to do if you have a good photo scanner? Did you use any special program? DLM: I totally agree with you, I know many people that would love to hire Camlan to do this for them. Goldie: good luck with your own project. And, yes, definitely archival-quality albums and photo boxes. Eandhl: good idea and one I'm going to use: get rid of all copies (and similar) photos right away. Thanks! Dedtired: I'm right there with you regarding the albums. I've run out of space for more! Lynn...See MorePantry organization - Need HELP!!
Comments (2)I have 4 kids. I have a large 5X8 walk-in pantry. it is organized. it is not pretty. keep things in their original packaging when it works for you. sometimes it doesn't, then find large enough containers that you aren't constantly refilling. your shelves can probably be just 10 inches deep. Mine are 12. there are only a few spots that I actually use all 12 inches. I posted pics of my pantry a few weeks ago. perhaps seeing it "in action" will help you brainstorm what works for you. I am happy to answer any questions about how it is organized etc.... here it goes... hth it works quite well, for the most part. not a fan of when dh "restocks" his beer - he just dumps it on the floor and then I have to get rid of the empty boxes etc. you might notice baskets/bins... they keep like things together. often needed things are easy access. the cart is a great help and moves around. the top shelf has plenty of room for the BJ's/Sam's size cereal boxes. can't remember if it shows up in the picture or not. the left side has wire organizers, giving me a "double" shelf for canned goods. yes, I do have a pasta/rice section... a canned goods section, a rarely used appliance section, cookbooks, seasonings, pototaoes/onions/garlic, baking section, snack section, kids' lunchbag/water bottle section, cereal.... tea stuff... you name it, it holds it. behind the door I have cleaning stuff, hung against the wall. my big question, which I go back and forth on every day, is whether or not I am going to forfeit some of this space when we remodel. My kitchen is **almost** big enough to do what I want with it... if I sacrificed 12 inches of the pantry's width, it would help immensely with the kitchen. And then I walk back in and gaze lovingly at my pantry and realize IT is the REASON we bought this house which needed so many repairs 2 years ago. I have a feeling I will wrestle with this question until the day I demolish the current kitchen....See Moreneed help with home office organization & decor
Comments (5)I would take out everything you don’t absolutely need and start from there. Be ruthless. In my experience, it’s more comfortable as a guest to sleep on good quality air mattress than most hideabeds. (So if you need justification to get rid of the sofa, you can try that ;) I would also move the printer off the desk (and onto a side table). I’m surprised there is so little paperwork and books. (Maybe that’s hidden). Maybe get a low bookshelf to store stuff like that. I suggest googlIng different offices to see what appeals to you, in terms of functionality and design. Good luck....See MoreNeed help with organization
Comments (6)A few ideas, which may or may not be practical: 1. Wet swimming gear hang in the shower. Or install a retractable drying rack on the wall in the bathroom. 2. You have a lot of furniture and areas used for decor and display that could instead be used for closed storage furniture pieces. The blue table in your dining room - use a piece with doors or drawers instead where you can store your shoes. The shelving in your dining room - it brings visual clutter and no storage. Get something with doors in at least the bottom half and use the top few shelves for decor. 3. The black bin and woven basket area of your kitchen. Take everything out of all six of those cubbies. Use two of the cubbies for protein powder and water. Then figure out how to use the remaining four to organize the rest of what is there. 4. Your spice rack takes up valuable space. Which of those spices to you use on a monthly basis? Which do you never use? Store the ones you use in a cabinet elsewhere, get rid of the rack and the rest of the spices. Keep you blender there. 5. You are likely not going to change your husband's habits - he has toothpaste and two electric toothbrushes on his desk. He seems to live by his own rules of convenience and organization. It isn't wrong and you probably won't easily change it. Let the area behind his chair be his own mess. 6. Cord management. Instead of the square six outlet charger, plug a power strip into the outlet and then hide it and the cords in a cable management box. It could sit on the floor or perhaps you put a little shelf there for it. 7. What is your bathroom like? Can you find a place for recharging toothbrushes there, or in your bedroom? 8. Have you maximized the inside of doors for storage - closet doors, garage or basement doors if you have them? I'm going to install a super strong command hook on the inside of a closet door to hang our wheely shopping carts on when not in use. 9. Decluttering will help your space look more organized. Remove books from top of kitchen shelf, have on your blue doorway table just one vase and hang the picture. Remove the rest. Remove the chargers and placements from your table when you are not using them. Declutter the top of your fridge. 10. I bet you can organize the insides of your cabinets and closets to hold much more too....See MoreUser
