The gray-washed wood look was a brief fad that is pretty much done. If you put that all over your home you will be kicking yourself within a year or less. The black tile should not be in a kitchen. It will show every crumb, every piece of dust, and every drop that is spilled.

Actually that black tile in your pic is cracking me up. There are cute paw prints on it. 'Nuff said. Unless that is part of the tile design lol.

I second everything Frieda said. That black tile will be impossible to keep clean and the other one is already past trend.

Hmm, well it’s not black really, more medium gray, and the house is covered with dust but I do see the point that things would show more on a darker surface. As to the wood, it’s not gray at all, maybe the picture is not great, it looks a little more grayish than it is. Fad or not, I prefer cool toned floors to rich rustic floors. Living in Texas I see them everywhere I go, lol. Either way, any other suggestions? We have an open plan contemporary style. We’re from Europe and lean more toward the cooler toned Scandi style. Or a modern mid century. Any help is appreciated. :)

If your taste is more modern, but unstained oak flooring throughout the entire house, including the kitchen area. It will be light and natural looking.

I love that idea but husband is too afraid of water leaks in the kitchen, hence the tile...

And here’s the wood floor. I have to agree, it has a hint of grey to it.

The floor looks light brown on my monitor, greyISH not overly grey. Only you can tell how grey or not in person. I think they go together. There is enough contrast and the tones seem correct together on my monitor.

(And whether it's a trend or not, the people who put grey floors in an entire house in 2017 or whenever, are not ripping them out for a while unless they are foolish.)

I had ebonized floors in my last house (black, and shiny as well.). Yes it showed dirt and dust readily. But guess what? Whether it shows or not it is still there.

We dust mopped it a lot, it was not a big deal. We just got back from a vacation and there were four kids between one and five and it was a beach house. We swept the kitchen twice a day, and we were on vacation. It really took no time at all. And those floors were sand colored. Nothing showed at all. But if you are barefoot who wants to walk around on crumbs anyway?

Oh Louise that explains it.. I love so many things European. It just hit me when you said this. My good friend in Germany has floors that grey color. I love them. I must be a fad follower too.
