You have a nice room, it's very dark.

I would not use that herringbone tile. Too busy, does not work with the rest of the decor of the room.

I would paint the fireplace the same color as the trim and also add some lamps to the room. That will lighten up things considerably.

Then decide if you want to replace the tile.

Looks like you are going for a more modern look, but if you happen to want something traditional, we used thin brick on our fireplace area, and it gave the appearance of a natural brick fireplace. We love it, but again, it would be if you are looking for something more traditional. Good luck!

The picture came out dark.

If I used the herringbone, it would only be on the hearth. I would put a 4x12 marble tile on the surround.

I do like the brick idea too.

Should I paint the walls an off white?
