Variegated Monstera lost its variegation

Hello, yesterday I bought a Monstera that was a cutting from a large Variegated mother plant. The woman said that she didn't know if it would produce variegated leaves so thats why it was at sale price. I figured I would take a chance since I love monsteras anyway. From what I've read it seems that if I chop it back to where there is striping on the stem that it could produce variegated leaves. If this is true where would I make the cut? I also noticed the undersidr of a leaf had variegation but it didnt show on the top of the leaf, does this mean anything or just a fluke? Thanks!
