LG Owners' poll - If you own one, or owned one, do you like it?
Comments (44)This was my post on one of the 'Washer/Dryer' threads: Posted by lolamina (debmacjake@comcast.net) on Wed, May 14, 08 at 1:07 Can't speak on the washer/dryer combo...I have inclination to steer clear of 'combo' anything. But just purchased LG 7188 dryer (w/all latest bells and whistles) and I'm thrilled. Service, as for anything we purchase that we can't fix ourselves, is a concern...but if you take an up-front view of how often service has been needed on specific appliances...that greatly reduces it as a prominent decision factor. LG Clothes Dryers just received the 2007 J.D.Power and Assoc. HIGHEST RATING of ALL MAJOR BRAND clothes dryers! We searched for weeks, read hundreds of reviews, and really did our homework - LG hands down for best performance and best value. Also highly rated by all the 'subscription' consumer guides. Before you listen to any one persons 'service experience' and apply it to the entire Brand...get Pro-Active and see how often service is REQUIRED for your MODEL. Best bet until combos (one machine to do it all!) are perfected, side-by-side and stackable models may well out-perform and require less service. Good Luck!...See MorePoll: Do I NEED a Nesco Roaster?
Comments (7)I'm the polar opposite of Grainlady. I don't particularly care for kitchen gadgets (although Elery does) and seldom use them, opting for basic knives, pots, etc. I LOVE my Nesco, though. I have the 6 quart and the 18 quart and I use both of them regularly. I don't have a toaster oven, a counter top convection oven, etc., although Elery does have a countertop rotisserie oven. Of course he does. (grin) The 6 quart does a wonderful roast chicken, and I use it in place of a crockpot. I can cook outside in it when it's hot and the kitchen is steamy, which was an issue in my old house, although for the first time ever I'm living in a house with air conditioning, so it might not be an issue this year. I've cooked in the garage, I did lamb on the back porch so I could avoid the smell, and I've dragged it to my daughters' houses when they were short on space. I use it for additional cooking/oven space on holidays, although now I have double ovens, so I might not have to do that either. The big one I use to simmer large batches of stock for canning or freezing, to make the baked beans or au gratin potatoes for family parties (we have a lot of those, we like to get together, what can I say), I've used it to bake brownies when my oven was on the fritz and I can take it with me and just plug it in and not take up kitchen space when we're at one of the girls' houses. We took it with us when we did Christmas with Elery's family too, so we didn't mess up the oven/stove assignments at his son's house. So I'd say yes you need one, although I would encourage you to borrow one for this particular gathering and see how you like it. You very well might decide that you need one after all. Comments (9)I don't have a special kit as such, but I am prepared for the next large earthquake. We have secured all tall furniture to the walls, but I should probably get some child-proof latches for my upper cabinets - that's where I had some of the largest mess in 1994. We have plenty of water, which I have stored in a safe place. In '94, my water bottles got broken by things falling on them, and so I am more careful now. We have a hot tub and can use water from that for cooking and washing. Also, we have camping equipment stored in the garage, which includes propane lantern and propane stove, but we also have barbecue that we can use for cooking, including one that is propane. My brother wants to get rid of the old propane BBQ, but I told him he would regret it if we had no gas. We have plenty of rechargeable flashlights that are plugged into outlets around the house. I have way more food than I need to survive, and in '94 I was also able to feed the neighbors. We have a portable potty in the garage, but we could also dig latrines, if necessary. Not being able to flush a toilet was the biggest inconvenience I noticed in '94. I think you are also supposed to store stuff in you car, but I have not done that. I always keep more than a week's supply of medications on hand. It would be nice to have a solar powered battery charger for cell phones. We also know where our gas shut-off is and have tools to turn it off when necessary. We don't have a generator, but I do not find that to be necessary....See MoreWhich garage door do you prefer (photos on house)?
Comments (46)Hi everyone, I just wanted to report back with the final results! I ended up going with: Make = Richards-Wilcox Model = Grandview (i.e. larger windows) Profile = Recessed Smooth Ranch Colour = Bronze Window Style = 4-Pane Window Type = Satin/Frosted (it's completely private) The "Grandview" has larger windows, but because the top panel of the door is larger, the window is actually positioned further from the top of the door than if I got the smaller windows (so ironically, the larger windows help prevent clipping from the angled corners). The satin/frosted glass is really nice -- it's completely private (which was a concern of mine). I can't really get a good picture because of my homemade dirt bin (another paver patio project in another Houzz thread :P) but I'm really happen with the results! Thanks @Beth for convincing me that Bronze (rather than White) was the correct colour for my house -- my house no longer looks pink! They still have to come back to clad the trim in matching bronze, and then I have to paint the shutters in Urbane Bronze. After that I can think about the front door colour and light fixtures. I think it will all pull together nicely :) Thanks everyone for your suggestions!...See MoreMilson Fitch
