Need tree suggestions for narrow space in Pacific Northwest
Comments (4)Both the thujopsis or the oak will be far too large for that space...and neither are particularly narrow (like not at all). And both grow very slowly compared to a lot of other possibiities. One tree I use a lot for privacy screening is the columnar European hornbeam 'Frans Fontaine'. It is a virtually problem-free tree, grows moderately rapidly and has a very dense, upward sweeping branch system that provided pretty effective screening even when the tree is out of leaf. And it is a PNW Great Plants Pick selection as well....See MoreKitchen space too narrow for island?
Comments (15)Thank you for all the feedback. It is so appreciated! To answer some questions: The dining table is in place already and my designer says that she included it on the plan as it stands now. I haven't double-checked those measurements though. It works fine as-is and the chairs do not hit the wall but it is a bit tight. Excellent point about the turkey dinner! I could approach an open dishwasher from the side if necessary but not so with an oven. I will point this out to the designer. What is the issue with the spacing between the sink and the stove, cpartist? The idea of an island on casters may be my only option but really the point of the island was for seating more than workspace. We did an alternate design with a peninsula but I didn't like how the peninsula seating was back-to-back with the dining room seating. Plan below (this plan considered installing a slider to our deck but we have since scrapped that idea since there's a slider in the dining room....See MoreAny beige paint suggestions for my living/dining/kitchen space?
Comments (8)Again thank you all for the suggestions. I am now leaning toward a warm white vs. a beige! Out of 12 samples (mostly beiges), I've narrowed it down to 4 (1 off-white, 3 beiges), now just trying to figure out which looks best with the kitchen backsplash. (I think they all look fine with the countertop, various woods, & living room, so it's coming down to the kitchen.) If anyone would like to share their opinions on the following choices, I'd appreciate any input: SW Creamy SW Canvas Tan BM Gentle Cream BM Dulce de Leche On the countertop Earlier in the living room, with other samples. SW Creamy is at the top. BM Gentle Cream is on the bottom. Earlier in the living room, with other samples. BM Dulce de Leche is at the top. SW Canvas Tan is 3rd from the top. I've discovered it is very hard to capture beige on camera! Hopefully you can see the subtle differences in these photos....See MoreHelp us design a more efficient kitchen PLEASE. - LONG NARROW KITCHEN
Comments (42)@Debbi Washburn thank you so much for answering my question about centering the table. It will have all the same flooring etc, as there will be a coffee station on the wall opposite the exterior door that takes up most of the wall with sink, bar fridge, etc. for poolside convenience as well. We have a huge patio out back and the door is the main entrance to our backyard so we need to keep a nice aisle etc. from back door to rest of house. I think we will change out the table for a round one to lighten up all of the rectangles in the space. I think we have room to get a 52" round. We are a family of 5. We will also likely have a working island 6 x almost 3 feet. I know, I know, we have to wait for the KD's plans..but i have a feeling they might be along the same lines. I mean I HOPE they come up with something we haven't thought of that works, but we don't want to move walls either because we LOVE our formal dining room. So I feel like we are kind of limited. (I watch way too much HGTV with all of these massive transformations..LOL)....See MoreMain Line Custom Kitchens, Ltd.
