Can anyone help design a 30' x 16' deck?
Comments (2)A few things that will help determine your design are what style is your home? Where is it...ie setting ? What is important to you? Built in benches? Are views off the deck a priority ? If on a lake or a lot with great views it might be designed differently than if on a tighter more urban lot. One might be designed to keep those views more open and the other might focus a bit more on the deck /house itself or back yard ..more inward focused if you will.. You might want built in benches vs spindles. As John noted the materials and budget can affect it greatly. You will see many decks on here refer to using Ipe or other exotic hardwoods. They tend to last much longer but take a bit of research to learn the techniques for building with these materials and finishing them. Details of the handrail you need to consider are if you want wood ( stained or painted) spindles, cable rail ? etc. The decking and pattern of the wood is something else you can consider to make it more interesting. Also whether the deck is all same color or stain or if the band board /trim are painted etc. These details are often keyed off the house details. Id suggest looking at Home Depot , Lowes or bookstore for decking books /magazines and look for examples of what you like and details that fit your preferences. The final part is the structure. That needs to be designed locally to meet local codes. Good Luck...See MoreZuri Decking material?
Comments (6)Just had Zuri deck (in walnut) with Radiancerail in black installed 2 weeks ago. So far...love it. It looks much more polished than most decks, in my opinion. Had a hard time finding a contractor with experience specifically in Zuri.....but it was worth the work. Just as a note, the previous deck (which was demolished by a fallen tree) was red cedar and we loved the look but not the maintenance....See MoreOutdoor muddy mess - need design help!
Comments (15)deck slippery? why not use a composite decking material? (After addressing your drainage issues that Flo mentioned ). Since it's a north facing, during the winter that ground will always be muddy. you could do shade plants, but w/the dogs, why bother? even gravel will get messed up. large concrete squares w/pebbles in between could work. But the deck would look the best. I have one around my pond that sits just above the ground. it's not slippery, doesn't require maintenance, but can get a little warm in the summer. you could always do a patio cover above it if you need too. not quite done with everything else (the walkway needs to be done, and the house painted) but you can see how the decking material is laid out w/the patio cover above it. we lucked out on this decking because it was a left-over lot. it was close to a 50% reduction. check local places that sell this material and see if they have any on clearance (if budget is a concern)...See MoreOutdoor design help with 2nd story deck.
