"Glechoma hederacea", aka Ground Ivy, Creeping Charlie, Gill Over the Ground, is a persistent plant that evolved in shady, moist soil conditions but has adapted to almost any today. However, these plants are still kind of sensitive to, and have difficulty growing in, soils that are very good for most turf grasses, a soil pH between 6.2 and 7.0 and is not mostly damp. Adjusting the soil is one method of control, but that does require a good reliable soil test. "Glechoma hederacea" is an early spring flower produce and is considered one of the early spring sources of food for our pollinators. If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all.

Hi Eve. The neighbour's palisades are not a common view on this forum... You're clearly from SA! (I am too) I would keep the current desk. I much prefer working at a large desk, regardless of the clutter or lack thereof. And you have the space for it. And it's wood (don't really want to switch that for the modern flimsy stuff do you!) Consider a smaller secondary desk, a sorta work-in-sight desk, for what you're not currently working on, or the printer, spare stationery, etc. You could put that beneath the window, with bookshelves to each side, and the main large desk near the west wall, facing east. Alternatively, the main desk against the south wall. (shown in the pics below) You should have space for a second chair, relaxing type, away from the desk. Keep a rug, whether this one or another. It makes a place cosy like nothing else. Lose the mirror - they should be functional or reflect something of interest. Replace it with art, something that gives you the calm feeling you're looking for. Look into wall lighting, for ambient cosy light. Were I you, I'd focus on getting the shelves first. You could have someone build them to fit the space perfectly, though free-standing. This will get you started on organising the space, which will work wonders. And the other additions can come as ideas, time, and budget allow. Suggestion - at the time of day you typically work, clear everything out of the space, aside from the desk and chair. (That means everything on the desk too). Move the desk and chair around to various positions, and sit for a bit in each. You'll find yourself visualising the rest of the space when you do. Find what suits you. Sometimes facing into/out of a room, lighting, random unexplainable preferrence, perception of space, etc, all makes a difference and you'll notice it best in reality. The pics are more or less accurate in dimensions. You can replace the pinboard and art with bookshelves along the north wall, can't have too many.

Thanks for posting a clarification of the look you're going for. I like the wicker chairs with the chintz -- kind of a classy lakehouse kind of look. I agree about the queen bed vs. the two twins; the bed in my guestroom is a queen, and I don't think the chair would look as good if there were two twins in there instead. Looking back at the pictures of your chair, I see that the fabric contains what looks to me like a very pale yellow that might complement the chair well as a wall color (although I agree with others that you don't need a strong color on the walls, I'm thinking just a subtle tint might showcase the chair to good effect). As far as window treatment, I have both blinds and curtains, allowing my guests to control the light as they see fit. Admittedly, both were left by the previous owner (I moved the curtains from another room, which is now our library, as I thought that that room should be lighter and the guestroom should have the option of being darker to ensure our guests' sleep quality). Something like natural-toned wood or bamboo shades coupled with white sheers might work well for your guestroom, based on your inspiration photo.
