Garlic Chives instead of Garlic--when?

I'm just getting ready to pull my garden for the summer rest (our summer is like winter up north--nothing much grows), and I still have a lot of garlic chives, which I grew by mistake. So I'm trying to use them up by subbing them for garlic in recipes.


I'm assuming that they still get added at the end rather than the beginning of a recipe? So if I'm making soup, where I'd add garlic to the onion I'm sautéing at the beginning, I'd just sauté the onion and then add the chives with the leafy greens at the very end. Is that right?
