What do I do with strawberry runners in a hanging basket?
Comments (6)Yossu: If you put your hanging basket on the ground over bare dirt, the runners will root in. Later in the season when established enough, you can cut the runner from the mother plant and dig up. pot up the runners in new baskets or use them to start a strawberry patch on the ground if you prefer. Another option would be to put an unplanted hanging basket filled with soil next to yours and put the runners on top of the soil in the empty basket. I would pin them down with something to hold them in place until they root in thoroughly. Be sure to keep the soil moist! Usually strawberries fill in an area with so many runners that when growing a patch on the ground, I would renovate the patch every 3 years. I would wait til the new crop of runners rooted in well (mid- August in my area) then dig them out. I would dig out the rest of my patch, till it up, get rid of the weeds and re-plant with the saved runners from that current season. You basically will find the same issue if you keep your hanging basket for more than one year. Some runners will doubtlessly root in your basket and over time it will become too full of plants The key with growing them in a basket is to remove the excess runners so your basket is not overcrowded. It would be difficult to keep the basket moist enough if too many plants are growing in it....See MoreRugs in the kitchen?
Comments (6)This question has been asked twice pretty recently. You might want to search the site. Bottom line, the results were mixed pretty evenly! I am in the group that thinks that wool area rugs/runners can work just fine in the kitchen. I just remodeled my kitchen and purchased a 10 ft runner for one side of my island. I am looking for an 8 ft one for the other side that will look good with the other one. The one I bought has an ivory background and I'm not worried that DH might spill some coffee on it. I buy good quality hand knotted wool rugs and they are very durable. I might need to send it out once a year for a good cleaning, but we'll see how it goes. We don't tend to make messes in the kitchen and my kids are older so we are past the clumsy spilling stage....See Moredo we need padding under a stair runner? thanks
Comments (2)Pad is a good idea. Two reasons. One, more comfort. Two, the runner will degrade(flatten out) without pad. It can be a thinner pad. Stair carpet takes more stress and strain than flooring carpet. Feet sliding, body weight on each foot for a longer time period, and twisting....See MoreWhat kind of rug / runner / mat do you use in kitchen?
Comments (16)With wood floors, I would just protect by the sink due to potential water damage. For years we have used a patterned jute rug with a non slip pad. It can be flipped, so extends usage and can be sprayed down/hung to dry outside (never wanted to potentially damage our washing machine. They are also inexpensive, so can be easily replaced. I came across this mat if interested, which is polyester vs jute and noticed its attributes: made in Italy, washable, rubber backed, a darker simple pattern and only $40CDN. I often purchase from Simons and have never been disappointed. There are countless styles and price ranges if interested in jute. I’d definitely not add a fabric mat in front of stove and just quickly wipe up. https://m.simons.ca/en/rugs-furniture/rugs/hallway-runners/braided-jute-kitchen-mat-52-x-150-cm--17271-3202250?colorId=16&epik=dj0yJnU9R0pPbHlkUHUwbHpCWkRYOEVZUER4Y2phTDRjTEhHZWomcD0wJm49Vzc2NEI2aUdSZjctZ1RLRy1GR1ZFZyZ0PUFBQUFBR0dfT29v Perhaps consider a patterned, vinyl/pvc mat, which is non slip and can be wiped clean - especially if wanting one at stove. It will protect wood from normal wear and tear as well. It will last forever, comes in endless designs/colors and can even be custom. https://www.etsy.com/listing/881617716/astolpho-45-vinyl-floor-mat-vinyl-rug?utm_medium=display_product&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=us_pros_daba_olfgms&utm_content=homeliving_autobid&utm_custom2=626743244770&pp=1&epik=dj0yJnU9RGRuUElEN2JpWDB2OHhLNGJPeWZhc3VkajJwbng2eHcmcD0wJm49dFBtWWdCWl9jMHRxMlh5X2hscmk0ZyZ0PUFBQUFBR0dfVkY4...See MoreRelated Professionals
