Need help deciding what to do with empty space in large kitchen
Comments (24)I'm going to do something like the first pic luckyblueeye posted above. A little conversation area, 2 chairs and an ottoman. When you say you like the table long ways....do you mean short end of table to short end of island? I think it looks a little odd but I don't know what else to do. I was thinking I'd get a large round table but I don't think I'll have enough walk room on either side of the table since I want to have my hutch and something else decorative on the other wall. I love having the table closer to the kitchen area though....See MoreEmpty Kitchen Cabinet Space
Comments (10)I can't tell you all how much I appreciate your feedback, to the point where I have tears in my eyes. I asked some of my family members what they think, and they looked at me and shrugged LOL. Thank you for pointing out that if I put something on either side of the window, the right side would be empty, you are right that would look strange. I really agree that a cabinet would make the kitchen look more enclosed, especially since it is a small kitchen. I really like the idea of the floating corner shelves, and I never thought about doing that. I also think it will be very unique! I am going to look at some examples now. Thank you again for all your help!...See MoreHelp! Empty space in kitchen
Comments (35)Since I don't think dog bowls are particularly attractive or appetizing to look at (but necessary to feed your cute pooch), I might put a wood table there, like a small console or something that would kind of hide the bowls without interfering with access. Then place art above that. or if you do want to raise the bowls a tiny bit, a bar cart with a low shelf would be really cute there:...See MoreEmpty Space in Kitchen
Comments (14)Not very unusual. As I suspected it's just an eat in kitchen. A smallish kitchen table seating four would go under the lamp. Often there might be some kind of banquette seating under the window section. As I posted having an "eat in kitchen" was considered very desirable. It predates the era of having an open plan where there is an island separating the "famiy room". I actually like an eat in kitchen because I think sitting around a table is far more comfortable than dangling from a stool and also a table enables people to face each other instead of being lined up. Depending on how formal a familiy was they would eat everything but fancy meals in the kitchen although some upper crust families - typically with a SAHM or maybe even a maid - woud do dinner in the formal dining room. Much more difficult logistically because you physically had to bring dishes and table settings back and forth from the kitchen as opposed to be a few steps away from the kitchen table....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
