Curtains floor length or sill length?

Hello all, husband and I are having little trouble deciding on the length of curtains for our home.

I want to go floor length, maybe an inch above the floor but my husband wants it to be sill length. He thinks having floor length will accumulate dust and is not good.

Is having floor length curtains current trend or is it old style?

Will it look good if the curtain ends 5 in. above the floor, right where the baseboard starts?

Hi Patty! The curtains should go to the floor. Do not stop them at the baseboard length. I think curtains should always go to the floor. Otherwise, it looks too choppy. The full length curtains will help your space to feel taller and look more grand.

Agree, to the floor and in some cases to the ceiling, not the top of window. Let's see a picture pls.

Congratulations on your new home! Full length curtains would look great at your windows. Whether you hem them to just break, or have them billow on the floor is a personal preference. if you have kids and pets I would hem them so they just break when they hit the floor. If you think of a pair of pants that are perfectly hemmed, they have a slight break in the line of the pant; that's the same idea for hemming curtains that just break.

I generally prefer floor length, too. Don't forget that since the valance for the Kensington line is not attached to the curtain, you could position your valance rod a bit higher. The valance rod doesn't have to be hung at the same curtain rod height. That would allow more light in and also make your windows look taller than they actually are.

Given your stated preferences, I would put the type of curtain/fabric on your windows so that the stair window goes to its sill as you have it and then on all other windows , you go to the floor Having said that what bothers me about your photo is the square curtain on the lovely oval window, This just doesn't go along with the style of your house. Please consider some of the glass covering treatments as suggested by Nick Brown for this door window...

Also agree, floor length. just make sure they are not actually touching the floor, then they won't gather extra dust.

I should add, dust generally gathers on the drapery themselves, not just on the top or bottom.
