Jessica It will work fine as a trellis for the vegetables you mention, though, depending on the size of the openings in the fencing, you'll have to watch the melons and cukes so they don't try to grow inside one of the openings. That would constrict them and you couldn't get them out without destroying the fruit! I grew Charentais melons last year in a bed surrounded by cinderblocks, and an unfortunate melon developed in one of the holes. But the time we discovered it, we could not extract it whole so had to cut it into pieces.

The plate is ceramic/china. I used a glass/ceramic drill bit. It takes quite a while to make the hole. It was supposed to be a practice plate, because I figured I would crack it, but I didn't!

OFG, those links never contained answers. A couple of years ago, we generated a list of questions to be added to the FAQ.
