Paper shades in kitchen?

Would like to buy the Thomas O'Brien Belmont Pendant from Williams-Sonoma Home for our kitchen. BUT, it has paper shades and only method of cleaning would be vacuuming for dust. Does anyone have experience with paper shades in their kitchen? This pendant (actually 3 pendants attached to single base) works for a variety of reasons which I won't bore you with. In searching I discovered quite a few kitchen pendants with paper shades so it is not uncommon. Would greatly appreciate any input!

We have that one ( at least I think it’s that one) over our island (no sink or range on island) and in two years it still looks great. We have the same shades on our dining room chandelier only smaller and one has warped slightly - I think because it’s smaller it gets too hot from the bulb. Our brass has darkened slightly but we have a 100 year old house so it suits our style.

This might be terrible advice so I apologize in advance. I would use Googone. I love this stuff. Googone takes off stickers, wall paper, labels, gum, grease, pine pitch (yes, Pine pitch on your lawn furniture), tape, blood, bumper stickers, melted crayon, caked on playdo, ... the possibilities are endless. Now, if it could work on erasing my crows feet I would be in business. ~boxerpups

Do they actually make room-darkening ones? I don't think the regular white ones block a whole lot more light. Some come with clips to hold them up during the daytime. A few weeks ago, I decided to price room-darkening cellular shades. Very expensive. So I tried another option to see if it'd work for me: I went to Target and bought tension rods and two room-darkening curtain panels (I bought the ones made for kids' rooms, because the length was better--on my bedroom windows, they hang just a bit lower than my windowsill.) The tension rods fit snuggly inside-mount on the window, so a lot of light is kept out between those curtains and my draperies.

Consider Command adhesive. I don't know if it'll work against the pulling but it's very cool. Sears, Amazon, other Amazon, plus Simple Human, Rubbermaid, and a number of other people make the ones that take a couple of small screws. They'll work. There are also a lot of magnetic ones. You might want to bond a steel plate to the inside of your door to hold the towels on a magnetic holder, plus other accessories, perhaps a dishtowel bar, tool hooks, potholders, or sponge cups. Suction mounts would work too.

Not sure if this info will help or not. We bought a ceiling fan with light kit for the guest room. Beautiful rich looking fan and light kit but the glass shades are tan (which I wanted) but when the light is on, it casts a dingy brown spots on the bed below it. The light in the room isn't very pleasant or bright.

Found a pic. Is this the same one? I just dust with a dry cloth or vacuum on low suction.

No to piggyback on this thread, but I too am curious about paper shades. I am looking at a different Visual Comfort pendant (the O'Brien Goodman)- but am very nervous about a paper shade over my island x2. I have a toddler, and I envision the worst case (flinging sauce?).

Can anyone comment on this pendant in a kitchen with a paper shade? I am open to alternative shades but wanted the white/off-white shade WITHOUT the brass interior.

Has anyone used the VC goodman large pendant with the white/natural paper shade in kitchen? Curious on durability and cleaning. There will be no sink or range top in island, but there is bar seating.

It looks like this thread is 3 years old. I'm curious as to how your Thomas O'Brien paper shades are holding up,as I am also considering the paper shades for my kitchen. Thanks 😊
