need help with my Lee sofa cushions
Comments (9)Okay, I found out my original cushions were the standard. This is also what I sat on in the store (Robb % Stucky's, although I ordered through Alan Ferguson). The cushions were terrible. I understand fluffing and turning but we had to do it EVERYTIME anyone sat down. But the biggest problem is hard to explain. The back cushions seem to be shapeless at the bottom. When you sit down, they tend to roll forwards into you. Instead of sitting down and back into the sofa, you're kind of pushing back forcefully with your shoulders to keep it from rolling into you. Almost like it is top heavy. Does that make any sense? When I take the cushions out of the case, they look fine. I can't quite figure out what is wrong with them. Ok, I contacted Alan Ferguson who contacted Lee. They sent me (free) a replacement set of the extra firm cushions which was very nice of them. However, same problem. Way squishy, rolling forward. Can't sink into them. I contacted them again and got a nasty email back. They were very short with me and insisted that if I "MAINTAINED" my cushions I would have no problem. They also described maintaining as turning and fluffing. I do that everytime I sit down. Should that really be necessary? My sofa looks like a slide. The seat cushions slope towards the floor, probably because you can't sit all the way back due to always fighting the rolling back cushions! Sorry this is so long but I really am at my wits end. I am not a rude or unreasonable person. I would be happy to pay to fix this problem if I only knew what to do. I know I am too sensitive but was hurt by the snotty email. Like I was being a pain in the *** when I have tried my best to be polite. Any advice please?...See MoreIs it worth buying used sofas to reupholster?
Comments (22)You may want to look into Key City Furniture. http://www.keycity.com/Quality.aspx I just had a Key City sofa that I bought at an estate sale for $200 reupholstered for $1,500 (labor and fabric). The sofa was probably 10 years old when I bought it and I have had it for 10 years. The former owners probably did not use it much but we use it nearly ever day. It would have cost me $6,000 for similar quality new. The upholsterer said it was still in excellent condition and need no work at all. Mine had 10 way hand-tied springs and all kiln dried hardwood and it is made in the USA. I believe Key City still makes a similar sofa to mine and it is not too deep and very comfortable. The style of mine is very similar to 914-90 in the link below except mine has T-cushions. http://www.keycity.com/Gallery.aspx?category=sofa If $7k is your budget I would go new from a quality manufacture or shop estate sales and high-end consignment shops and then get it reupholstered. Also, make sure to check on-line for your fabric. I get mine for less than 1/2 the price the upholstered was quoting....See Morecotton velvet sofas - pictures of your older ones?
Comments (22)I'm too lazy to redo it (I make beautiful big squares and rectangles...ie drapes and quilts LOL) and never attempt anything with curves heh heh Actually I really like the worn finish. Our walls have a bit of a soft rose copper (not pink or red really, but copper leaning towards rose verses orange if that makes sense). So the worn rose, which appears on camera more pink that it really is, looks great against them. There's a lot of the underlayment coming through (a taupy tan color) which softens the rose just enough to really work. I actually have two of these settes (they were on sale really cheap so we took them both). I plan on sending one down to the PT house for a bedroom as well. I forgot I was supposed to take pics and share the cat hair LOL (They're actually doing really well in that aspect). I'll have to see if the contractor is out of there so I can take them. I've had a crazy busy day with painters, window coverings and finally, finally...DOOR KNOBS!!!! All being done today. Door knobs..can you imagine the luxury? We've been without for three years LOL (Yes even on the bathrooms). I may just open and close doors all night...cuz I can heh heh...See Moresofa choice - what would you do??
Comments (8)Thanks Beverly. I am definitely considering that option as well. Though the way the room is laid out, only one chair would fit opposite where I would put the leather sofa. The fireplace limits the space. I've attached photos of the empty room. 1) is entering from the foyer, 2) is from the wall where the upholstered couch would go, view to the entrance and the wall where the TV is (future sight of built ins), 3) is facing the wall where the upholstered sofa goes centered on the window and the leather sofa would go where the lamp on the floor is, 4) is facing the fireplace wall, view from the corner of where the leather couch would sit. thanks for your help!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
