Comments (3)I still (hanging my head, shame faced) don't know how to upload photos. But I will get someone to help me and post a few. Would be best to take them in daylight. fori, having taken part in DD's reno I do know how labor intenstive it is to paint cabinets properly. DD & SIL painted them in his Dad's home and later in their own. They have a large garage space (w/ heat) & a good sprayer. I helped with the priming, sanding, & poly stages with the ones for their home. Lots of steps & drying time between but the results were so worth it. I know I'll go bananas during the process, having everything out of order. But I could get through that. I just have to decide if a change is in order. I'm so used to seeing it as it is, I can't be objective. That's why I'd like opinions from the folks here....See MoreHelp! What color to stain white oak floors?
Comments (5)We have quartersawn white oak floors that have no stain and just an aluminum oxide finish for protection...they were pre-finished in a very matte finish we specified to be put on at the mill. The quarter sawing changes the appearance of the grain so they may look a little different from yours unless yours are also quartersawn? We love the color and though they do scratch a little (we have two VERY active larger dogs, a Border Collie and and English Shepherd)the lighter color hides the scratches so far and doesn't show a lot of dirt. Comments (8)For photos, I use Flickr. I am not a layout guru, but my first question is how much do you want to change? Do you love the function of your layout today? Or are you planning to keep this layout to keep the cost down? Have you seen the Rustoleum Cabinet transformations stuff? I have not used it, but it has been used on oak cabinets before. The only advice I can give is that painting cabinets requires really good quality paint and good technique. Cabinets take a lot of use (abuse?) and a paint made for walls is not likely to hold up as well as an enamel paint or other formulation made for furniture. A friend did this (paint, granite, new hardware, marble backsplash) and the results were GORGEOUS....See MoreHelp choosing stain for white oak floors.
Comments (19)@J.Clark - I'm thrilled with the floors a year on. So glad we skipped the stain. They really look lovely. We added a pup to the family in October (small terrier) and he had some accidents but they haven't penetrated the varnish at all. Good luck!...See MoreAnna MB
