For BEST results... PRE-primed = RE-prime! Factory primers aren't the best quality, and get dried-out too fast. Dirt from storage & transportation comes into play too. Soooo- Scuff-sand with 100-grit, remove all dust, re-prime with a top-notch primer. Zinsser's 123 is good and easy to find. >>> IF you're pretty fussy... Consider TWO prime-coats! This'll give ya a little cushion to sand the dried primer slightly (I'd suggest 120-grit here), making an IDEAL surface for a really smooth look! If ya do this, I'd wait half a day for the 2 coats to be sandable. Faron

Oopsie, I plan on talking to him. Because I have seen his temper I'm afraid of what he may do, not sure why? When he let me know that the wood grain was going to show thru in the front of the cabinets, said how that wasn't included in the sanding and spackling, I agreed to give him 200 extra, even though DH and I knew it was included, wanted it done right. When he let me know his estimate for painting skylight, sofit and walls didn't include ceiling, he thought it was going to be another extra. Who would expect a job with (new lighting,under counter lighting, granite counertops, carpentry, crown molding, floor, added pull outs, new appliences)not to have ceiling painted? At this point I just want to pay him for what he has done and get him out of my house. If I have to stay home with him while he paints the inside frame with 2 coats of paint, I will sit in the kitchen and watch. Is there anyway of me telling if he did the agreed on 2 coats of paint on the front part of my cabinets? Since he told me several times it wasn't necessary to give 2 coats of paint, I feel he didn't do it,even though he said he did, obviously I don't trust him any more. When he paints the frames he will have to cover my granite, and will also have to take the doors off (inside hindges), do I tell him this, or assume he will do this the proper way? I'm afraid the quality of this work won't be the same, which is why I ageed to the price he gave me. My mistake was looking at his own house as an example of his work, in my home he cut as many corners as he could, in his own home he cut no corners. He has also told me several times that for the "money I paid him and for my doors I could have had a new kitchen", till I asked him never to say that again. He has made other comments, which have done what they are suppose to do, shut me up and get me out of the kitchen! Thanks in advance for your help.

As long as AIR & SURFACE temps are above 50, you're good to go. * If it's the 123 Latex Zinsser, 3 hours is usually enough, unless temps are below 50. * In the fall, the "painting window" is a lot shorter, depending on your location. * After each coat of paint, make sure there's 3-4 hours dry-time b4 temps go below 50/upper 40's again. * Dew can form pretty early too, and take a long time to dry off in the morning, so watch the dewpoints as well. "IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISTURB LEAD-BASED PAINT FOLLOW THESE PRACTICES: Children and pregnant women must not do any lead paint removal work, and they should stay out of the work area until clean-up is complete. (See “Clean-Up.”) If you're not sure you can clean up every day, arrangements for temporary living quarters should be made. Work in one room at a time, and seal off the work area from the rest of the house, including any heating or ventilation ducts, using heavy plastic sheets (6-mil thickness). EVERYTHING in the room (furniture, rugs, carpets, floors, bedding, drapes, dishware, food, toys, etc.) must be removed, or covered with TWO sheets of plastic (6-mil) and all the seams taped. Plastic used to cover the floor should be secured to the wall or baseboard with duct tape. Wear disposable coveralls, shoes, hair covering, goggles and a properly fitting respirator. Only HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) respirators will filter lead dust and fumes. Simple paper or fabric dust masks will NOT protect you from lead dust. To avoid ingesting lead, do not eat, drink or smoke while working. Clean up carefully. Before leaving the work area, dispose of coveralls, and remove dust from your clothes with a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner. Shower as soon as you can, so you do not spread lead dust around your home or elsewhere."
