Looking for mid range cabinets
Comments (12)All the names provided above are pretty well known and have dealers almost everywhere. If you find a norcraft dealer you are looking at Mid continent just so you know. Midcontinent dealers have to order more often to get that name so they normally get the cabinets at a cheaper price. They pass the savings on or they may try to keep it. Some dealers on here will tell you that a indepent store with Kraftmaid gets it at a lower price then the big box stores. I do not know that for certain but I do sell Allwood brand cabinets known to be sold by costco. Allwood charges more to Costco according to my Allwood sales rep because they provide more service and support to costco then they do me. So that is probably true for Kraftmaid. Supply is greater than demand in the remodeling world so prices are lower then a few years ago. Some cabinet makers have adjust prices quickly others have not. Independent dealers have to keep their doors open so their prices are in many cases just trying to stay alive as demand slowly matches up to supply. Larger companies like lowes and home depot have an army of people that are comparing what other companies are charging and the result is each company tries to pretty much offer what another large company is doing for about the same price. Smaller companies that do not spend the money to build their name nationaly to the extent of the brand names thrown around here are usually a good bet. I read a lot of posts of people buying from what I call shade tree cabinet makers. It seems most are happy when they post their end results. I am teased all the time by sales reps I have to many companies and it is not a good idea. I run my business from school of Hard Knox everything I know is from being hands on and learning as I go. Many people on here would call me a fly by night dealer because I have not made it big to afford a large showroom to show off with. That really has nothing to do with my knowledge of available products and my understanding of remodeling as I have gone to school for construction management and have built 100 plus homes in my 20's as the project manager. That means I did not have the money to invest to start off going full speed at the start. I have had to learn what companies were out their how to get permission to sell the products. I have had to figure out which companies stand behind their products and which do not. I have had to learn who sells things at a better price then the next guy to. If you do not make the cabinets you buy low and sell higher for a combination of the poduct value and the value of your service to design and occasionaly be involved in the remodeling. I have seen the prices for and been involved in the ordering of products for about 40 cabinet companies. I currently offer to people I know about 20 of the 40. Here is a list of what would fit your question that may bring a different answer then anyone else on here. Niche market brands you will not hear much of here that are low priced are Brandom (limited lifetime warranty, and 39" wall cabinets available) Kabinart (plywood boxes only 10 year warranty decent sku availability) Bridgewood- Advantage Series (10 year warranty, they make their own doors for framed and frameless cabinets for all your European lovers out there, so you can specify special width or height (max 96") for a cost of about $100 extra per cabinet, they make proper wainscott panels for the backs of islands. True raised panels can be added to the sides of all exposed cabinets, and they have about 60 available modifications. I can give any of the cabinet companies listed above a run for their money and give you more customization to make it fit without any fillers if I wanted to. 6 square is a good in stock cabinet for the money if you like the door style and colors offered. Their cabinets are made as good as anyones. The roll out trays are even soft close full extension dovetail drawer boxes....See MoreAnyone use cabinets by Wolf?
Comments (92)I posted above 2 months ago and I want to update now that we've laid eyes on Wolf Classic white painted cabinets. The headline for me is "thank goodness we chose a great contractor". We signed up with a big operation that must do a lot of work with Wolf. They inspected every cabinet at their shop prior to bringing them to the job site (our home) and I've learned there were a few that were damaged and sent back for replacement. Some of the replacement cabinets even showed up damaged and had to be replaced. All in, the quality of the cabinet is not great but we are lucky enough to have a good contractor that's making all the door / drawer adjustments and will touch up all the paint imperfections, of which there are many. We ordered white painted and so they're bound to have flaws vs a stained cabinet which would probably be less delicate. However, as other reviewers noted, you would expect better quality for the money. I can not in good conscience refer you to Wolf Classic but I could refer you to our contractor if you're in the Atlanta area. We purchased cabinets from Cabinets.com for a basement remodel 2 yrs ago and based on our observations the Cabinets.com product is better. Key differences to note, white painted wolf classic doors are MDF and supposedly will hold the painted finish better over time because contraction and expansion is reduced. Cabinets.com are maple doors, cabinet interior is nicer, they use blum soft close hardware and they didn't show up damaged. Of course there are many cabinet brands to consider but at a similar price point Cabinets.com appears to be a better product. Wish we would've considered them again or another brand. Having said all that, our kitchen project is going to look great when it's done but I doubt they'll look great in 10 years. Definitely no comparison to the quality of the 80's cabinets we just had ripped out. Reach out if you have any follow up questions....See More6k Thomasville vs 9k Innermost cabinets - promo ends today
Comments (3)Disclosure: We installed InnerMost cabinets this past October. When you're choosing between InnerMost and Thomasville, there are a couple of important considerations aside from price. One is just aesthetics - which look do you like? To me Thomasville looks more traditional and InnerMost looks more modern or European or something. If you can go either way comfortably, then how about space issues? For us, this was a deciding factor. Our kitchen is dinky and we needed to maximize every square inch. This photo was from granite install day, but you get the idea: The extra space comes from full access drawers which do not lose the 1.5" behind the face frame in framed cabinetry. The uppers are also 13" vs. 12", which actually makes a difference - things that didn't quite fit in the old cabinets fit fine in these. Long agonizing over exactly what to put where is also helpful regardless of what cabinets you decide on. Price: we paid around $14,000 for ours, including the cost of trim pieces and toe kick trim and such. We have what you can see in the photo, plus there's a 12" utility closet over 2 deep drawers to the left of the fridge space and a 27" full height pantry with roll outs in the bottom half you can just see the edge of on the right. The peninsula has 2 24" 3-drawer units and a 15" 4-drawer unit. On the other side of the dining room (behind the photographer's back) we also have 4 64" glass fronted cabinets. One is 24" deep and the other 3 are 13" deep. We had the glass done locally. The lowers to either side of the stove are not the same. One is 15" and the other 14". We found InnerMost to be extremely flexible on things like that. "Deals": The best I can tell, all the companies have deals pretty much all the time, the specifics just change. InnerMost had a "free" sink base in July and something about glass fronts. We weren't ready to order in July - the planning and considering stage needs to be thorough. When we did order in August, the "deals" changed. We got "free" finished ends (we had many!). The sink base freebie had expired, but the HD guy called them up and they said sure, why not? At that time HD also had a deal going of their own that if you spend x amount, they take y off. It wasn't as good in August as it was in June or July, but it was considerable. The various incentives added up to about $2500, which was good since I was suffering from sticker shock. This may not be a great time of year for the best incentives. "Particle board" - Please! it's "furniture board." Now I'm not chuckling anymore: the stuff they use in good cabinetry of the type you're considering is excellent quality, not to be confused with that sawdusty stuff that you sometimes see in chair seats under the fabric covering. Some will insist that you must have plywood, and others then battle back. We went with the "furniture board" and are satisfied with our choice. Summation: we really like what we got. Given a choice, I'd never have framed kitchen cabinets again. We're happy with the look, the quality, and the function, and would choose to pay the premium again if we had it to do over. Thomasville is also a perfectly valid choice. If you're just as happy with face framed cabinetry, then save the extra $. P.S. I suspect your final bill will exceed what you quoted above. All those little trim bits add up, but you really do need them to finish up the job....See MoreHelp! Shopping for mid-range quality kitchen cabinet is daunting.
Comments (13)"Amish Made" does NOT necessarily mean higher quality. To say that Amish made cabinets are higher quality is a very wide sweeping statement to make. Every cabinetmaker is different. I've seen beautiful work by "the Amish" and I've seen "assembled" parts that were not high quality at all...yet were labeled Amish Made because that's who assembled them. Why does this Amish mystique continue? I saw an episode on TV with Vanilla Ica (he had an Amish remodeling show)....and the kitchen they re-did looked mucky and awful. I wouldn't put the cabinets in my shed. Anyway, my point is....just because something is labeled "Amish" doesn't mean it's higher quality. Check them out....if you can tour the shop and see them being made (not just assembled), then maybe you have legit good cabinetmaker.
