36” Gas Range - what brand?!

Trying to decide on a 36” gas range, is it worth the higher end like Wolf/Viking/Bluestar? If so what brand? I do actually cook a lot so it need to be functional as I look at the right #/size of elements and consistency of convection oven/elements. Thank you!

I'm going with a 36" Bluestar, I can't wait to get my wok hot enough!! And to have more space around my pots and pans while cooking.

Without knowing anything about you and your family's needs, it's difficult to say whether you should get a 30" or a 36" range. How many burners do you regularly use? How many do you need when you entertain (if you do) and for holiday dinners? If 4 won't cut it, get a 36" range. Your kitchen is large enough to accommodate a 30" wall oven, too. Personally, I'd prefer to use the smaller oven most of the time so that I'm not working over a hot oven while cooking on the range. Another option would be to do a 36" cook top, a 30" wall oven and a 30" speed oven (MW combo, multi-function). Separate appliances cost more but, as DrB477 pointed out, 36" ranges are spendy. You didn't ask for lay-out advice but your lay-out doesn't make the best use of your kitchen's footprint. Your fridge and range are crowded together and your island's angled shape puts the sink farther away from perimeter counters than recommended, plus it provides limited counter space. Given the opportunity to take advantage of your misfortune (my sympathies), it seems a shame not to consider addressing these issues at the same time. Are you on a slab? Even if you are, can you move plumbing at all? If so, here's one possibility that relieves appliance crowding and gives you a larger island with more counter on each side of the sink plus a lot more room to work on each side of the range, and better work aisle widths. Do you have pantry space somewhere? Or are you doing pantry cabinets? There's room to add them to the above plan, either between wall oven/MW and fridge, creating a "wall of tall" or at one end or the other of the range run. Good luck with your rebuild! PS. If your fridge is a standard depth fridge, you may want to allow a wider aisle between fridge run and island. Or you could investigate recessing the fridge into the stud space a few inches.

Yes, the installation instructions say 35-1/4" opening. I guess it's the thickness of the cabinet sides I'm unsure of. The countertop thickness won't be an issue. I wonder if you normally would put a 36" range top in a 36" cabinet? We are doing this job ourselves and I can't get a solid answer from appliance stores or cabinet people. Thanks for your reply.

@itsourcasa yes we did purchase the Verona Induction. We've been using it for a few months and absolutely love it. Easy to use. And it is even so much faster and powerful than our vintage gas range which was really great. We don't miss the gas "power" at all - there is plenty of power with induction. Plus the clean up is so easy. No burners to clean out the spills.

A range is only half of the expense. Ventilation and makeup air are the other half. Don’t blow your budget on only half of what is needed.

I like the extra depth front to back. A big difference on an all gas range is that the broiler on most prostyle ranges is infrared so gets much hotter than a regular gas broiler but often it is smaller. Some prostyle ranges will accommodate a full sized baking sheet. You have a lot more choice in the structure of the burners.

A lot of people do like BlueStar but there are several lines that are very different from each other.

What type of cooking do you do?

Do you stir fry a lot. Is a lot of heat, fast important.

What type of cookware do you have?

What type of oven do you have now?

How do you use your oven?

Have you considered whether you want a burner tray that breaks down for cleaning(open) or a sealed tray?

What is your budget and as Sophie says, you will have to put in adequate ventilation

Wolf is OK if you go with the all gas. I have their dual fuel and the blue liner has chipped off of the bottom. This is a problem they have had for at least 10 years with some posters here having gone through three oven before they gave up. Wolf will fix during the time it is in full warranty but after that, they won’t even tell you how much it is to fix. Mine failed at 4.5 years. Often the ones the fix fail again. You can search Wolf and Viking on this forum and you will find plenty about them.

Without knowing a lot more about your cooking style and other factors that influence your decision, I'd say: get the Bluestar RNB with open burners. It's an amazing workhorse, easy to clean, and very easy to use.

Thanks I got a killer deal on a refurbished 48” Thermador and hood. We shall see how it goes, but will be looking at Bluestar if I ever need to replace.

My MIL got a Bluestar a few years ago and she cooks a lot. It's easy to clean as well
