Comments (5)I didn't know that, when I was shopping for a slipcovered chair I checked out C&B because I was told Lee made some of their furniture. This could be one reason why you see a chair on the floor that looks like something you saw on Lee's website and yet the name is different. I soon found out the chair (or sofa) is slightly altered when it's made for C&B. I just thought they tweeked the shape a little so they could rename it and prevent comparison shopping. After reading your post I have to say I'm not surprised there's more going on "under the hood" than I realized. Glad I didn't buy my chair from them. I ended up ordering from Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic where they still use 8-way hand tie method and the furniture is made in the USA. Very expensive though. Ethan Allen has one or two slipcovered chairs but they stopped doing 8-way long time ago. I didn't find many slip-covered furniture out there in stores, it was slim pickens. Everyone wants leather and upholstered microfiber these days....See MoreIs Crate and Barrel furniture good quality?
Comments (13)We recently purchased a glass door bookcase from CB and it is of good quality for the price. We did have to assemble it ourselves at home, but DH commented that it was very easy to do (much easier than anything from Target or even a wooden kitchen we purchased for DD!). A portion of the bookcase is made of solid wood, and DH thought it was very well built for the cost, much better quality than DIY furniture at target. I would say the quality is comparable to mid-priced furniture that you would get delivered from furniture stores, and better quality than Ashley. CB seems to have several lines of furniture and several price points....See MorePottery Barn vs Crate and Barrel Sofas
Comments (9)I agree that reupholstering your EA sofas may be the way to go. I have a pair of hand-me-down 60 yo EA Bergere chairs and they're in wonderful condition. They're well-made, comfortable and came back to life with new upholstery. Of course, if you don't care for the lines of your old EA sofa, then there's nothing to be done for it. I bought a vintage sofa on Craigslist for $25, found 13 yards of fabric at an outlet for $37 and had an old country preacher reupholster it for $350. All told, I got a new-to-me sofa for just over $400. I wouldn't rule out EA, Thomasville, Drexel today. Their reputation is that they're pricey, but they've really had to drop their prices to stay in business. I was in EA this spring and they had a slipcovered sofa for $1200 or so that I looked at long and hard before going my vintage-cheap route. I've never heard a bad word about PB, et al, so I dug up the article lovesummer mentioned. I'd be very interested in these same folks looking at their furniture today. That article is now a full 3 years old and I've seen plenty of blurbs in the PB/C&B catalogs touting improved quality and value. Interesting findings. Comments (25)Hi everyone, glad to see this post resuscitated! In the end, to my own surprise, we ordered the C&B Axis II sectional. I spent an hour with a Room & Board designer and was all set to order couches there, but I brought my teenager to test the options and it was clear that it wouldn't work. He's 6'3" and every sofa he sat on looked like kiddie furniture. I really really would have loved to get the beautiful Arhaus white sofas but I realized I was going to spend every day anxious about an errant glass of chocolate milk. I did investigate the higher end options, but in the end the Axis was the most practical option. We'll see - our reno is moving really quickly now and hopefully we'll be moved back in by early/mid March with the new furniture. Will post an update then....See MoreKathryn Elizabeth
