Just to prevent any confusion (I don't care -- this is just for information): "Pullout" is often used for anything that one pulls except a drawer because a drawer already has a name. Therefore there are pullout shelves, pullout pantries, and pullout spice racks. There are pullout cutting boards and pullout tray racks. The only use I personally have seen in my four years of being TKO of "rollout" is in the phrase "Roll Out Tray Shelves (ROTS)", which Buehl taught us to say awhile back. Since it looks like opposite definitions are being used here, I just wanted to clarify. That said, I think door-attached pullouts (or whatever you want to call them) are great for areas that are too small to usefully make a cabinet. That's a maximum of 15" wide, and more like 8"-12". For a pantry, even at 15", I prefer individual pullout/rollout shelves to either a door mounted unit or drawers. You can see from the front, you can see from above, you can see from the side(s). I have an undercounter pullout with two door mounted levels that holds bread, cereal and other breakfast/snack stuff. Love that. Too narrow a space for anything else (tray storage elsewhere). You can see and get to everything, but there's no need to reach across much. Only two packages, if they're narrow, sit side by side. Good stuff! Two doors don't bother me given the ability to see into a pantry (that's what I have), and I like wider than narrower, though that isn't at issue here. You can get a single door with 15"-18". One member--Circuspeanut? I forget--has narrow pullout trays but no doors. Looks cool in her kitchen. :)

Curmudgeon view: I'm trying not to overbuy food. Are you? If there's a designated space, can you tolerate having it empty or will you buy to fill the space? We've had discussions here about the "CostCo Cupboard" also, a way to deal with the overage that results from shopping in quantity. "If you build it, they will come" has implications for kitchens as well as the movies. Also, consider how your buying will change as your family situation and personal aging impact life in the kitchen. People with small children live with lots of cereal boxes and readymade foods, but this ends. Real life follows. And at my place in the scheme of life, I have as few canned goods and readymades as possible; storage of fresh produce is my dilemma. If I were living as my elderly mother did in a house alone, I'd be back to frozen foods and canned goods and restaurant meals, a trap I hope to avoid. And as someone said above, consider what happens to items that aren't entirely closed.

Very strange my last text is no longer here or maybe it didn't post? I'd written how much I appreciate all the time, thought, research and effort everyone has put in. It has been very helpful. I took the advice of a poster above and after school went to a BM store where I thought they might have a color consultant. They had two very helpful women who suggested after seeing my pictures on this site Wickham Gray for the kitchen and gray mirage for the dining area (it looks like a moss green) Both colors are soothing. The Wicham is similiar to several of the other colors people suggested. I put large sample squares of it up on the soffit over the window and it looks blue. I like it and if my youngest wasn't coming home from college tonight I'd run out and start painting. Instead I'm going to make a comfort food dinner. Homemade mac and cheese along with roasted brussel sprouts and salad. Ever since I found out you can roast the sprouts I'm a big fan of a formerly disliked vegetable. Regarding the fridge-it's actually just a normal size one door fridge and works just fine. Maybe it shines because I gave it a good cleaning after we put down the floor! Cannot justify the expense of replacing it for aesthetic reasons. I have a kitchen cat g-d vertical flag that one of my daughters brought back from Japan and could hang it on the fridge!
