When I find something that works I stick with it. I have living issues specific to me- enormous dogs that factor into every decision- the placement of every table (tails!), the width of passageways (stepping over sleeping giants), upholstery materials (200 lbs. of toenails do a number on bad leather!), the height at which things like televisions and shelving are placed (HIGH- these beasts can grab stuff off the top of the refrigerator, and open it, too), flooring- everything. I have spent decades fine tuning these issues and finding solutions to living with multiple Yeti and still having an attractive home that works at least equally well for humans. Of course when I moved the new place had the same concerns so I duplicated as many of my solutions as I could. So yes, it is much the same right down to the layout. Although I have been chasing Ben Cartwright's living room at the Ponderosa Ranch since I had a dollar to began decorating. That space, to me, represents the ultimate in durability and comfort. I need tables you can tap dance on in hobnailed boots and scrubbable furnishings, lol, and I got 'em. My furniture is nigh indestructible, suits my needs, and looks good- I chose well. You can walk in the door not even knowing Yeti live here and it looks good, so win/win. For me what works in the first house works in the second and third just as well. It's not a rut, it's a groove!!

That fireplace is really something. I've never seen one like it. If you like it, then start looking for fabrics that consist of the same colors in the stone. You'll be looking at shades of gray from pale to charcoal along with the golden tones in the stone. As you know the paint colors on the wall, I'm assuming they were freshly painted. Right now, the windows and the fp all look like dark rectangles on a light wall. However, I'm thinking that going with a darker color on at least that wall would help them all blend in and make for a more cohesive look. Painting this one wall an accent color is not a big deal to paint one flat wall, but it can change the look and feel of the space quite a bit. These are all sherwin wms colors Note on the gold...it is difficult to get a good color in the gold tones to show up on line so this one is not right but just to give an impression. Of course all wall colors would have to be vetted in the space. inky blue attitude gray online hopsack mineral gray I think the mineral gray would support your desire for a loft look. If you don't like the fp, then you can look into paint or stains to try to alter the color of the existing slate, or you can talk to a tile guy about tiling over the slate. (I'd leave the slate alone on the floor.) You can then opt for a stone tile that is less bold while still getting the texture.

I love family photos. However, (and this is just me) I get a creepy feeling when they are put in such a prominent spot that for a lot of the time I am in a room, the whole family is staring at me! My beloved SO has LARGE family photos of his whole family on a shelving unit right across from our bed in the bedroom, and it is a small room so the edge of the bed is relatively close to the shelving unit. His whole clan is always staring at me, when I go to bed at night, when I'm changing into my jammies or getting dressed in the morning, and when I wake up. I wouldn't want my clan up there, that's for sure, but different strokes for different folks. He likes seeing them all the time and I am just splitting hairs with that creepy feeling. Better than in the bathroom I guess! My dad has a small photo of my deceased mother in a prominent spot in the living room, and that doesn't bother me, so I guess it depends. I have a mirror in my dining room and hate it because I hate looking at myself while eating. I would love a wall of family in a dining room, but maybe not where they were always staring down at me while eating. A montage of smaller photos that one passes by on the way to the table--wonderful. But really, just some random thoughts. As many have said, there is no one right or wrong way if you like it that's all that matters. Also, there are some frames that you can buy that mix photos with design and sometimes sayings, those would look fab in your room. You could fit a little montage on the right side of the doorway. I almost bought a piece at the local big box that was a clock where you could put a photo in every time slot. I also think that "mixing and matching" photo exhibits in one room is probably a no go too. So for example, putting that clock in our bedroom along with the photos on the shelves might bee too much of a good thing.

Thank you. We have the 7'6" and 3' covered. I totally get the confusion as I supplied too much information. The one light my husband is holding in the picture is 35" wide by 9" tall (with the rod it will be 36") thus when hung will be 7'6" off of the floor. This is the 10'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling. The other area is 14'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling and the light will be above the table. It is the other style and is 39" tall by 24" wide. It comes with 6' of chain. Would these two lights coordinate enough to be put in this same room? The finish will be close enough. (with a bit of spray paint on the second one)
