Chicago Faucet Co. faucet in a home kitchen?

Would it look strange to put a Chicago Faucet Co. faucet in a home kitchen?

They are mostly made for commercial use and are pretty utilitarian looking ( they only come in chrome). They have all the qualities I'm looking for: made in America, brass construction, affordable.

All the pretty faucets from Delta or Moen seem to have bad reviews saying the quality has gone downhill and there are lots of plastic parts.

I'm lazy and cheap. :) So I'd like to install a faucet that will work for a decade at least and could rebuild instead of replacing in the event of any problem.

But I can't afford a $1500 Waterworks faucet.

So what do Houzzers think of Chicago Faucet Co. faucets for home use? Will they look out of place in a home? Have you put a commercial faucet in a home kitchen and what did you think of it?

We installed a wall mounted articulated Chicago faucet in 2005 in our kitchen. It's still working. Chrome looks good as new!

Here's a post from Remodelista. My faucet showed up in their Architect's 10 Go To Modern Faucets post and I think there's another forum member who has it.

Jayne Michaels of 2Michaels design in New York loves Chicago Faucets, a longstanding Remodelista favorite for both kitchens and baths. “The simple, timeless design can be used in both a traditional and modern setting,” says Michaels, pointing to this Wall-Mounted Sink Faucet as an example.

Michaels also reminded us that Emerick Architects used a budget-friendly Chicago Faucet (shown here) stripped of its chrome in a Seaside, Oregon, project that was a finalist in the 2014 Remodelista Considered Design Awards. “Unable to find a budget-friendly, unlacquered brass faucet (who wants to spend $1,500 for a cabin?),” they said, “we instead used a trusty Chicago Faucet design in chrome and had the plating removed. The whole thing cost a tenth of the alternative.”

I put one in my kitchen about 15 years ago, a double jointed bridge faucet. It even impressed my plumber brother in law. It wasn't inexpensive. I think they are beautiful in a no-nonsense classic faucet kind of way.

They used to sell them with ceramic handle options for a real old-timey (and more residential) look. Maybe they still do.

I've had Kohler and Chicago Faucets faucets (as well as American Standard, Hansgrohe, Moen, Delta...but NOT ROhl) and the CF was the best. Fabulous quality and finish, extremely heavy duty. The Hansgrohe was really good (and had more features than the CF I had). The rest were okay, but I do think, from my experience, that Kohler is several steps down in quality from CF or HG. If the CF has the features and look you want, I don't think you can go wrong.

I ended up here, because I'm redoing my kitchen and trying to make a decision about the faucet. I have various faucets throughout my house from Kohler, Moen, Restoration Hardware, and Newport Brass. I think the Restoration Hardware fixtures are made by Newport Brass, because we had to call them when we needed to replace. We've had them from 10-12 years, so I don't know the styles or even if they are made. Almost all are polished nickel, and the Kohler and Moen are always spotless, laundry room and bathroom, respectively. I'm not crazy about the pull down sprayer on the Kohler. The Moen Showcase (do they still make this line?) is in the bathroom, and I love it so much, because I can just pour water over it and it will dry spotless. It's amazing. It is wall mount, and I wish I had it in every bathroom. Because of my success with Moen, when I needed a faucet for my kitchen, I bought an inexpensive (relative to all the other faucets I have) Moen at Home Depot. It is the only non polished nickel faucet I have. It is stainless steel, still looks brand new (10 years+), and the pull down sprayer works wonderfully. Unfortunately, I'd never buy fixtures from Restoration Hardware again. They spot like crazy. The Newport Brass are slightly better, but they also spot. I'm looking at Kohler and Moen for my new kitchen, but the choices are limited in polished nickel. Now I'll look at California Faucets, too, but I'll skip Rohl, since someone mentioned the polished nickel spots so much.

Chicago Faucets is a good choice. Be sure to let the company know, however, that you are installing it in a residence so they can configure the proper flow rate. Restaurant-scale flows are likely to blast you across the room, Other possibilities are Symmons Industries and T & S Brass. All of these are reviewed and rated on our webstie.

Our review of the Chicago Faucet Company starts out:

"We have never heard of, nor do we know anyone who has ever heard of, a defective Chicago faucet.

Chicago might be the best faucet line made. We certainly know of no better. But, Chicago Faucet is also the reigning emperor of un-cool. It is so lacking in style that its very lack of style has become "Chicago-Chic" — almost a style of its own."

That is about all we need to say about the Chicago commercial faucet line. Whether you can use it in your kitchen, certainly. But, keep in mind that it is a commercial faucet. It's big, it's powerful and, until you get used to it, can be a little hard to control.

As to whether I would install one in my kitchen, absolutely without hesitation. But, the Boss won't have it. She is not a fan of Chicago Chic.
